Yea, adults...and unless it was a game, practice and activities were done by 5/5:30. I can’t see high school kids being in a classroom at 7/8pm. When is dinner? When does homework get done, the morning? I know we’re just spitballing, but as a paid working adult I’m not sitting in an office past 6 and definitely not working til 8.

they need to get these kids in school ASAP! Like you said, use other spaces if needed, community centers, churches (tho I see some parents having an issue with this), use the gymnasium and cafeterias on campus, etc

I'm definitely not suggesting teachers sit at school all day, there could be a morning and evening teaching staff. Not everyone likes waking up early and not all parents work first shift. Homework can be done in the afternoon. Lunch can be replaced with Dinner.

kids shake it off though, the mortality rate for people under 18 is basically zero

what's gonna happen is that they give it to their parents  not to mention older teachers

You’re not counting in when kids get just regular sick during the flu season and now we have Corona in the house. Weaken immune system.

Thankfully Corona didn’t appear widespread til flu season was basically over.

This has me thinking of another idea; perhaps extend the hours the school building is open. Younger kids attend from like 9am-2pm and older from 3-8pm. Still 4-5 hours of instruction, but switch out the times? Just thinking.

America is so done. Stupid.

Also you better hope covid-19 doesn't mutate into a kid killer. Unlikely but if it does this will be the thing that brings America down 100%.

do you really think the union is just gonna end up throwing its older teachers to the wolves?

you'd have to be crazy to send a 60 year old teacher into the middle of this shyt :dead:they can talk as much "we care about the kids" shyt as they want in july, but there's no way they end up going through with this come september. i dont see it

I see a lot of interesting ideas in this thread around using spaces that are otherwise underutilized to hold classes in. And I think something along those lines would have to be under consideration if we want to safely get kids back in school for the fall. But I honestly wonder if institutions in the US are even capable of being able to even consider, much less execute, on some of these ideas?

Given the hand we currently have in the US (a badly botched, non-uniform response to COVID), some kind of hybrid approach might be the only practical way to safely get kids back in school.

One underlying assumption I keep questioning is the thought that there's little concern about kids contracting COVID and getting severely sick themselves. I haven't been seeing much discussion around it recently, but there's still the mystery illness that kids have been coming down with in COVID hotspots to consider. And while it seems to be rare, there's consistently been cases of this popping up in former hotspots in Europe and in the US: Paediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome

Why do some of y’all come up with the most negative scenarios about this, the “probably wonts” and “hope nots” don’t hide your intentions
