My son's school is only doing one day a week and not even for day. My wife's a teacher she put in for the medical accommodation but her union rep told the teachers we really went know what's going on until the week of school.

I'm torn on sending my son back. On one hand the most obvious I don't want my son to get covid-19. On the other hand he's going into first grade, being home everyday and not interacting with children isn't good for his development. And education wise he is going to fall so far behind. My son has a but if social anxiety and before covid hit he was finally flourishing socially, I don't want him to go back into his shell. It really isn't an easy decision.

The other thing you gotta consider is school really isn’t “school” right now.

Masks on everyone, social distancing, no extra activities or assemblies, teachers parents and students on edge. People might get sick and die.

Is that environment really beneficial for social development?

I have kids going into Kindergarten, Middle school and High School and Ive had the same thoughts as you.

I don’t know the right answer, but our schools are gonna start with all remote classes. I hope by the time the decision has to be made again, America has it’s shyt together. I know we won’t though.

fukk the economy. The shyt don’t exist without a population.
My wife is a nyc teacher. Some schools haven’t even upgraded their infrastructure to handle that large population. One outbreak and it’s getting out of control.
It’s gonna be crazy now imagine this scenario and then said infected kids take the train(like the vast majority of this in nyc) and starts to pass it around. fukking game over at that point.

The rapid increase in cases stemming from schools is a clear case that schools she not be reopened for the full 20-21 school year.

The full-support should be pushed for infrastructure to allow both teachers and students to succeed digitally. That means providing electronics and monitoring for students if they are homeless or transient - provide temporary education structure and internet plus food and social services. Teachers should also be provided with electronics and a large district budget for supplies.

A change in how standardized testing is administered is also a necessity.

Cuomo is just playing politics and I’m glad AOC went at him. Stop all that cute Ish.

Some Kids are taking public transportation to school, then they are around their peers and teachers. After leaving school these same kids then go home to their parents or worse grandparents. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.

I don’t see the reason of keeping gyms and indoor restaurants closed but you open schools instead. I don’t get it.

Uncertain grounds
Now I dont even think hybrid opening in MOST districts are a feasible idea whereas before I thought it may be workable.

Perhaps in states like the dakotas/montana/Wyoming etc

Otherwise it's just not worth the experiment. Lives are at stake and even on top of that it would be terrible for the kids to have the possibility of getting very sick lingering over their heads all day in class while they are trying to learn. It's not like previous worries that could be easily hidden. The masks and different measures taken would be readily visible at all times and be distracting at best..and trigger anxiety and panic attacks at worst.
