This is a very good album, hard rap. nikkas have been so sensitized by all the Drake, Wiz and other foolery on their playlists

Asap Fergs album released in august was better than this.
better production consistently, more cohesive, better features (aside from rae on blind threats) and a cool middle eastern vibe mixed with bone thugs and trap

I'm a Schoolboy fan but no...shyt trash. I'll go as far as to say the most disappointing debut I've heard in a minute. Idk what he was aiming for but it just don't sound right. The sequencing ain't even on point. It goes all over the place it feel like. Imma give it a few more listens but my review would be a 5.8-6.5/10 so far.

This. nikkas don't understand how nikkas is dropping major label albums. With all the pressure from labels to sell, sell, sell, artists are trying to find ways to branch to a wider audience, since it's a known fact that most rap fans don't purchase rap albums (as much as they used to). Schoolboy dropped an amazing rap album that probably won't appeal to a wide audience, he'll probably do Ferg numbers (that's not a knock on him, just reality).
A great mainstream album is one that appeals to the core fanbase you're trying to reach, while branching out and gaining new "casual" fans of your music (people who don't listen to rap). Reason why Drake's debut is better, his own labelmate's Kendrick, Wiz. You'd have an argument if you comapred his album to Big Sean's debut though

I'm not sure Wiz's album really garnered a fan base though fam. If anything it really alienated his old fans and while black and yellow was a hit, it was one hit wonder status for Wiz Khalifa. Kid Cudi's carrer is what somebody like Wiz woulda been better off striving to achieve. Now he is an absolute hasbeen.
Drake has been on top pretty much since So Far Gone. Lil Wayne passed the torch off to him
As far as the quality of the music...Schoolboy Q's album is better than any rapper the OP listed. And it is what a great deal of the fans will want. EVERY SINGLE cat I know in real life that listens to Schoolboy Q (probably cause I put them on) loves the album. That says enough.
Another rapper I forgot that dropped a very solid debut was ASAP Rocky. He probably widened his fanbase but with singles featuring Kendrick and Drake...I'm not surprised. Kendrick is a product of the machine. Schoolboy hasnt had any cosigns from legends, any A-List features outside of a label mate which is more than understandable, the same level of promotion etc.
If anything TDE is responsible for opening him up to new fanbases. The songs were there, TDE dropped the ball.
Looking at this thread we know who the real Q fan's are and those who were just riding the hype train

Hes going to do more than Ferg numbers, easily. Ferg had NO prior material aside from a handful of songs and as of like 4 months ago sold like 60k, numbers havent been updated in awhile. Q has 4 projects, 2 of which hes released thats hes garnered a nice fanbase with and is already at 35k with preorders. I see him doing at least 80-90k first week.

Wiz does big tours, still doing somewhat respectable numbers, and is about to drop his 3rd album, he lost the casual fanbase he had after he dropped Kush & OJ yeah, but gained a new fanbase after he dropped Rolling Papers (Black & Yellow in particular)
Though Thank Me Later wasn't as good as So Far Gone imo, people knew what type of artist they were buying into and the type of music they'd get with the half singing, half rapping, all harmonizing which made it a major success and propelled him on top of rap.
For a rap album, yes, Schoolboy did drop an amazing record, shyt was golden. Being a better debut than the artists listed (outside of Little Sean
), don't think so. He tried in certain songs to appeal to a different crowd (Hell of a Night, Studio) and don't think he succeeded. What makes those debut albums so great is their easy transition for the listener who doesn't listen to rap.
