Kemp has mediocre career stats......Legendary dunker.

Averaged 14 & 8 for his career

Developed a J late in his career, but by then, it was too late.

The:flabbynsick: kicked in on him real quick.

The spectacular dunks made him an icon, tho.

Might be my favorite dunk of all time.

He was a 3rd option "James Worthy" who never found his Magic & Kareem.

This guy knows what he's talking about....

Kemp wasn't a 3rd option.... The end of his career is the reason his career stats look the way they do, he put on that weight and his game wasn't the same, but before that he was definitely a superstar.

i didnt deny his super stardom...and blake shares the number 1 option with chris from game to game... why did you say number 3?

and kemp was on my top 5 in the 90's

but skill for skill.. i find blake better.. not saying kemp didnt have those skills.. but kemp was really a superstar because of how easy he dunked on people... i know cuz i SAW those games.

Beyond stats.

My eyes.

Never thought Kemp was a great player. At no point in his career was he ever a top 10 player in the league.

But I'll take the criticism.I understand that niccaz love Shawn Kemp. The flair, the dunks----great memories

When I think of that Sonics team that made it to the Finals, I see GP, Detlef, and Nate McMillan as the "glue guys".Kemp was always the wildcard.

He peaked in the Finals that year.Best I ever saw him play.
@Brozay

But I can't call him the 2nd option. That Seattle squad played great team ball. They all kinda shared the load equally.Sam Perkins & Detlef Schrempf..Hersey Hawkins...Nate.Honestly, they had the best team defense(other than the '04 Pistons) I've ever seen. The way they swarmed Hakeem in the semi's that year was:whoo:

That team was deep.Payton wasn't even in his prime yet IMO.They just played great team ball.Nate McMillan's leadership was underrated on that team.

This topic made me literally stare at my phone, in complete befuddlement, at how bad a comparison this is.

:francis:

Is Kemp even better than Bosh?

This post is obviously written by somebody that wasn't around to watch that team live, and hasn't watched any real footage of them lately.

I watched a lot of the Sonics playoff run in '96.

Most of the 90's really.I'm a Suns fan, so I remember the battles we had with them.Especially in the '93 WCF's.

Nobody was shocked when they knocked off the Rockets in '96.There was a period from like '92-'97 where the Sonics absolutely owned the Rockets. They were the Rockets worst match up.They were lucky not to bump into the Sonics in '94 & '95---I can just about guarantee that the Rockets wouldn't have any championship banners right now.

But yeah, in '96, I was really impressed with Nate McMillan. He was the leader of that Sonics squad. He used to direct the defense like a coach on the floor.....after him, I'd say Detlef....then GP.

I call Kemp the wildcard.Kinda like how the Hulk is to the Avengers. Not really one of the "leaders", but he was probably the most naturally talented/dynamic.Would beast when he was on, but wasn't consistently great.

That's just the way I saw it:francis:
