well apparently, that entire scenario already went down with the 4-team format, and Alabama is playing in the chip next week, so whats your point? and you wonder why people are calling for 8 teams.

auburn wouldn't have made the 8-team tournament, using my model breh.

USC is big money, and they could've gave Clemson a pretty good game as the 8th seed.
:gucci: what scenario? Alabama wasn't guaranteed a playoff spot and would NOT have gotten one had Auburn taken care of business against UGA. Auburn was ranked 7th and beat two #1 teams this year so you not having them in your hypothetical playoff is even stupider. I don't wonder why people want 8 teams, they feel like it's the only shot their schools will have at playing for a championship. I felt the same way too until we went 12-1 this year. Win some damn games and make the playoffs. If you lose more than 1 game, you don't deserve a chance. Period. And even if USC gave Clemson a game, the winner would've played Alabama or Ohio State the next week and gotten the brakes beat off them. The old "plus 1" idea sounds real good right now.

Get rid of the playoffs.
Bring back the computers.

Use a BCS style system using the computers and polls pick the best two winners from the New Year's Six for the National Championship Game.

I say a 6 team playoff with the Top 2 teams receiving a first round bye. Don't wanna add too many teams because it'll take away from the regular season. I like the fact that its Any Given Saturday and every game counts.

nah,the huge appeal of college ball is every game is important. move it to 8 teams and you lose that.

I hope not. They had unofficial playoff games during the last few weeks of the season. Adding more teams would make those games matter less in my opinion.

It looks bad because the No. 1 team looksed like they shouldn't be there and UCF beat Auburn, but I give a ton of credit to Saban for preparing his team against that offense. Also, the same goes to Scott Frost for basically running two programs.

I hear what y’all are saying, but why is college football the only sport on earth where losing a game or two is unacceptable?

College basketball you can lost a few and still be champions. NFL, etc.

I think it’s time to leave that way of thinking in the past and add playoff games so other teams can get a shot. No way in hell a sport with 120 teams only has a 4 team playoff. That’s madness.

yall too hard on Clemson. they had the best lost, considering that they only caught that L because their quarterback got knocked out the game. that's why they finished the season ranked #1.

I like the idea of 12 teams as well. that would make the regular season mean more actually. all those dope group of 5 conference games on TV every week, and its like theyre out there playing for nothing. everybody should have a chance to win the chip, going into week 1 of the season. and again, theres only TWO at-large bids to non-conference winners.

8. UCF vs. 9. Boise St ------> vs. 1 Clemson
5. Ohio state vs. 12. Troy-----> vs. 4. Alabama
7. USC vs. 10. Toledo-------> vs. 2. Oklahoma
6. Wisconsin vs. 11. florida atlantic-----> vs. 3. Georgia

or you could just X out the 9-12 seeds and just do an 8-team format. whichever one floats your boat. but one of these has to be done.
UCF should really be the 7th seed but you know how the NCAA committee is gonna play their politics.

Every season game obviously doesn’t count though :dame: Clemson was #1 with probably the worst loss out of all the top 4, OSU was outside the top 4 with a better set of wins than any of em. So no, every season game doesn’t matter, and hasn’t mattered with the vivid favoritism towards 3 programs that has been shown since the inception.
Clemson lost one game.
Bama lost one game.
Georgia lost one game
Oklahoma lost one game.

Ohio State lost two games and didn't handle their business in the regular season. Let's forget they got mollywhooped by a 7 win Iowa team brehs.

again, as i been saying for 3 years, expand the playoffs to 12 teams with the top 4 teams getting bye weeks.

This is how it would've looked.

12/9
12. UCF 17 at 5. Ohio State 55 - 3:30 ABC
11. Washington 17 at 6. Wisky 27 - 8:00 FOX

12/10
10. Miami 17 at 7. Auburn 31 - 3:30 CBS
9. Penn State 31 at 8. USC 28 - 8:00 ESPN/ABC

12/16
5. Ohio State 21 at 4. Alabama 27 - 3:30 CBS
6. Wisky 16 at 3. Georgia 27 - 8:00 - ESPN

12/17
7. Auburn 28 at 2. Oklahoma 31 - 4:00 ESPN
9. Penn State 28 at 1. Clemson 27 - 8:00 FOX

12/23
4. Alabama 28 at 3. Georgia 27 - 3:30 CBS
9. Penn State 28 at 2. Oklahoma 35 - 8:00 FOX

1/1 National Championship in Atlanta

lol @ troy, toledo, boise, florida atlantic being in the playoffs :dead: they would be double digit underdogs against every team in the top 15, that would kill the integrity of the playoffs.

No, extending the playoffs takes away the "playoff" atmosphere that surrounds every game during the season. And I don't want to hear the inevitable bytching about it being too many teams when there's a down year and some 3 loss team sneaks in and wins it
there are 120+ teams in FBS.

It will not take away the playoff atmosphere of the regular season.

College Football fans are such weirdos. Before the playoffs, a lot of the same people arguing against an 8 team playoff thought there should be no playoff.

edit: now they all love the playoff, but dont want more teams

@ the bolded - yet, theres 2 or 3 teams sitting at home with better resumes than Alabama, that didn't go to the playoffs. including ohio state, who you apparently think would have beat the breaks off the #1 ranked team in the country........sounds like you should be in favor of an 8-team playoff.

and youre contradicting yourself. first you were claiming that Alabama would have a guaranteed spot in an 8-team playoff, until I pointed out that the same exact scenarios we had over the 4-team format, would've still went down with 8-teams. now youre trying to sing a different tune.

or maybe you just didn't think it thru. hence, you thinking auburn would've been in. they were ranked too low and had 3 losses. the two at-large bids would've went to Alabama & Wisconsin.

the same could be said about march madness. theyre not complaining.

and I could def see boise beating USC, and those other teams at least giving them a run.

AND AGAIN, I can see if you don't like the 12, but you cant deny the 8.

yea but that would kill the regular season. most of those teams had their chance and don't really need to be in there.

I like the proposed idea of a 12-team format with the mid-major champions getting a shot. but I can see why you didn't like that.

the medium would be just expanding to 8 squads. the P5 conference champs, the highest ranked group of 5 school, and the best 2 teams leftover.

they played a tougher schedule, and beat better teams.

Alabama's best win was squeaking past a Mississippi state team that will barely be ranked next week.
