I think it's disingenuous as the people who are now defending and supporting her wanted her to go in the first place even when her heart wasn't into doing so. If they actually truly gave a damn about her instead of the glory from her wining and supporting her country, then they would have told her to stay at home and focus on her mental health like she alluded to from the beginning.
They didn't do that though because they wanted her to compete and bring home the gold, which how situations like this transpire.
And she still decided to do it until it got to the point where she realized she couldn't do it

This whole thing very disappointing but I want to give Simone the benefit of the doubt. Just sad she did all this press, basically the face of the Olympics and now either lost passion or confidence or both right at game time. And its not like that doesn't effect her teammates. It has to. And they seemed to not know she wasn't ready or did they know?

As far as I know Simone Biles never made any big political statements, never said anything bad about the country yet judging by conservatives’ reactions you’d think she pissed and shytted on the flag. They don’t like the fact that a Black woman is the GOAT in a predominately white sport and are using this as their opportunity to unleash some pent up frustration. Some sucker shyt and any Black person joining in needs to wake the fukk up and realize what all that “criticism” is really about
