She didn't want to do the extra promotion for the film for free even if it would benefited her career in a lot of directors and executives eyes by doing so. Now that all that is established, agreed upon, and out the way....can we be real about the situation now
an ATHLETE literally quitting in the middle of a competition is nutty as shyt. It would be corny if an athlete did that in high school much less one of the highest levels of sport period.
She presumably been training for this moment since the last Olympics, qualified in the U.S, flew 20+ hours to Tokyo, did a qualifying round there, made it to the next round .....then realized "it's more to life than gymnastics" . Would she have had this revelation if she absolutely bodied her qualifying round? Seriously doubt it.
Now obviously her statement is true in the general sense but in the context of the event and the moment in which she was saying it...shyts a L. It might add another paragraph to her wiki but outside of that it don't really take from her legacy or none of that so we can be real about what it was.

Ehhhh I wouldn't call Monique an established talent like that where she pull and dictate moves like that. Not in the movie world sense. What was her biggest movie role prior to that Oscar? The Parkers were 5 years before Precious came to fruition.

Article above. But to give some context, Aly started posting thirst traps on IG right after the Rio Olympics and everybody was like: you were just an American sweetheart gymnast. Wtf.

Then the whole sexual abuse scandal breaks, with Aly being one of the first big names to come forward.

Some online folks try to blame her sexual abuse on her being promiscuous, due to her new bad girl image. We now know that doctor was molesting damn near everybody, so her rapid change in sexually charged imagery was probably a traumatic result of her abuse, and not the cause.

Aly defends herself on social media, saying taking sexy images doesn’t give anyone the right to sexually assault someone.

And mf Gabby, responded to her post saying: “well, you still need to be more modest and not attract the wrong crowd ”

Which I have to give the disclaimer on this site, that Gabby’s post was not that bad, in isolation. But given the background of the whole situation, the fact that Gabby knew multiple teammates were being molested, and not because of no sexy pictures. It was just bogus af to me.

Hell GABBY eventually admitted she was being assaulted too. She was just in denial when everything exploded, trying to save her good girl image, and willing to throw her teammate under the bus by trying to separate herself from the whole situation.
