Well I guess I'm going more off memory than anything. That '04 year was basically Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, and KG in any order, I just don't recall KG being viewed as the best player alive. He was in the conversation...

I don't disagree with your points, really most of the 00s didn't have a definitive single best player, there was always 2-3 guys with equal claim to it. Kobe was always more popular and flashy than Garnett so maybe that's why at that time we had his name in the hat, plus that was the height of the Kobe/Shaq beef and that last year together was when the "who is better/whose team?" thing was nonstop with basketball media...
He's called the "most versatile player in the league" and the "best player on the planet period" by announcers in this :hubie:

Shaq had like his weakest season at that point in his career that season. He played well enough vs the Pistons but the consensus was he was on the decline and no longer the best player in the L.

Peja & Jermaine O'Neal were better in the regular season. But the former choked hard vs the Wolves in the WCSF (sort of a constant for him...) and the latter didn't exactly show out in the postseason.

That year KG was clearly viewed as the best player in the league. The Wolves could've walked out with a title that year had Cassell not gotten injured.

You most have a shytty memory then. You couldn't watch ESPN, Fox sports or any basketball without them calling KG the best player in 04. That was the only year where he was the consensus best player.

And I can't justify Kawhi in '19. The two biggest challengers were taken out of the running, and I don't know how you overlook that KD played one quarter in The Finals and you couldn't even tell Kawhi was on the floor. That game and the rest of the series was setting up to be an epic public exposal. Kawhi can have '19 by default, but there's a clearly a forced narrative since then, to say he's better than the other guys...
I actually checked out game 5 the other day. The Dubs were cooking! KD couldn’t miss and neither could anyone else. How much were they up by when KD got hurt?

5...top of the 2nd quarter :russ:

Steph Curry was the best player on the floor in KD's 11 minutes. Point blank.

Curry had 14, including the first 5 of the quarter, followed by a kickout to KD for a wide open 3 for KD's first bucket (Curry drove to the paint and drew-in 3 guys on that play).

Curry ended the 1st qtr by grabbing an offensive rebound and making a floater in traffic to put the Warriors up 5-6 pts heading into the 2nd quarter. He was the leading scorer in the game.

Regarding KD vs Kawhi
Kawhi didn't normally start cooking in the 1st quarter in any of the Finals games, and KD was avoiding him on defense anyway. On offense, most of KD's 11 points came as a spot up shooter from Curry's disruption.

Gauging how KD played vs the Clippers/Rockets and how Kawhi played vs Orlando/Philly, it was a coin flip who the better player was before injuries set in, and was debated on the usual talk shows.

In real time, nobody saw Steve Nash or Dirk or Chris Paul as the actual best player in the league even when they had MVP seasons. Nobody was calling Kawhi the best either last season until the end of the Finals, Giannis was looked at as the best all year long. The criteria here seems iffy but as long as it gets clicks :yeshrug:

For 2009 and 2010 LeBron was the best player. Kobe stans try to say it was Kobe because he won the titles when he had better teams.

In 2009, LeBron averaged 38/9/9 in the ECF and lost to Orlando primarily because of match-up issues defending Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis. The Lakers did not have those problems with the versatile Odom and Gasol locked up Dwight. LeBron had one of most dominant playoff runs ever he played at a level Kobe never did individually in the '09 playoffs. So although Kobe won the title he wasn't the best player alive.

In 2010, LeBron was on his way to another dominant playoff run destroying Chicago. He ends up getting an elbow bone bruise on his shooting elbow which leads to his jumper falling off a cliff in the later games of the Boston series and he is given little help from Mo Williams and Antawn Jamison.

In the regular season its no debate who the best, most dominant, most impactful player in the league was. To lead those Cleveland teams to 60+ wins back to back years and win back to back MVP's just shows his dominance. LeBron was also a DPoY runner-up in 2009 which is something Kobe never was. LeBron's free agency was such a hot topic because the best player in the league was hitting the market.

This is Jerry West, Mr. Laker and the guy who discovered Kobe at the time calling LeBron the best player in the league...

LeBron was the undisputed best player in the world in 2013.

66 win season, 27 game winning streak, 27/8/7 on 57/41/75 splits, led the league in all advanced stats, won the championship.

I almost gave KD 2014 on my list. He was the best player during the regular season but he lost to the Spurs and got outplayed by Russell in the WCF.

No, he shouldn't have. You wanna know who is the best basketball player in the world in 2008? Watch the USA-Spain Olympic finals game. While Chris Paul is busy hiding in the corner and LeBron & Wade are playing hot potato with the ball, Kobe is the one who put the team on his back and brought the gold home.

98-92 USA

Kobe hits a three, 101-92

104-99 USA

Kobe with a dagger four point play, 108-99

111-105 USA

Kobe clutch drive to seal the game, 113-105

Kobe shoulda won 2006, 2009 & 2010 too. Nash's 2006 is a travesty and miss me with LeBron's regular season stats, I'm not impressed. We all know who was the last man standing in '09 and '10
Nah dont ride my man Kobe’s dikk now :camby:

U slandered that man crazy, until he died :camby:
Yet I still see nikkas compare him to KOBE :mjlol:

He left that chucker in the bushes a long time ago

Kobe is not Top 10

Jordan
LeBron
Kareem
Magic
Russell
Hakeem
Wilt
Bird
Duncan
Shaq

All better players than Kobe

This was May 12, 2018

Stephanie Lurry has got to be the most overrated "superstar" since that clown Kobe

  1. MJ
  2. LBJ
  3. Kareem
  4. Kobe
  5. Magic
  6. Wilt
  7. Russell
  8. Bird
  9. Duncan
  10. Shaq & Hakeem

Fair enough. But I realized the error of my ways and that I was being an idiot :yeshrug:

Better late ( it was shortly before he died tbh ), then never. I posted hella dumber shyt about Kobe than the posts you brought up, if we keep it 100. Posts that should get me negged. You can find it in my post history easily.
