All right guys. Let kick our annual team review.

And we will start with our

Quarterbacks

Brock Purdy
- This is a new era for Brock Purdy. He is no longer the scrappy underdog former Mr. Irrelevant. He now the highest paid player in 49ers history. He got himself a 265 million dollar contract making him the 8th highest paid QB in the NFL. The expectations are different now and he will have more responsibility and even greater scrutiny placed on him. I for one believe he is up to the challenge as he is continuing to mature as QB and as a leader of the team and face of the 49ers. Now lets get the elephant out of the way, Brock did not have a great season last year and he made some unforced errors that made victory more difficult. But it seems the football experts are coming around to my perspective on things. Brock was not as bad as the numbers suggested he was better than several high level names who didn't get a fraction of the criticism because of their pedigree such as Kyler Murray, Trevor Lawrence and CJ Stroud. I think part of the problem is that the red zone offense was piss poor. Brock had the team in winning positions but either had a missed kick or a bad penalty cost them. I also think Brock at times tried to play hero ball when that was never a strength of his. Brock can throw reliably up to 30 yards with great touch. He stuggles once the throws become 40 yards or more but that was never a hallmark of a Kyle Shanahan system that relies on controlling the middle of the field. He needs to operate the offense like Chris Paul or prime Jason Kidd, be a field general and take what the defense gives you, don't get desperate. Brock when given time is one of the most accurate QBs in the league and he has proven he is capable of building rapport with receivers very quickly with Jauan Jennings and George Kittle having career years with him and connecting with then rookies Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing. Brock is also a capable athlete and while he is more quick than fast, he can get you 5-10 yards with his feet pretty reliably as he cuts pretty decisively. I think how well he does this season will be tied to the offensive line's ability to protect him and the effectiveness of the WR corps that will be shaky in depth with a lot of new and young faces added to it. Brock doesn't need to be elite for the team to be success just protect the ball and move the chains.

Performance: B-
Potential: B+
Overall: B

Mac Jones - Mac Jones was the QB we were 'supposed' to draft as opposed to trading the farm to take the talented but raw Trey Lance. I have followed Mac Jones and despite having a promising rooking year, he never lived up to his draft pedigree going to the Patriots, to backing up Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville. There had been talk of Mac Jones being a somewhat unlikeable teammate and being arrogant. But it seems that at least in San Francisco this has not been the case. He has admitted that he has actually learned from Brock Purdy how to work better as a QB especially when it comes to accuracy which has been middling for most his career. One thing though Mac is your prototypical pocket QB. He is no athlete and his release is a little labored but one thing that shows on tape is his arm talent. He can throw the ball 50 yards no problem but again while his completion percentage looks decent. He tends to put the ball in harms way way more than he should and its led to a lot of picks. He also tends to freeze or panic a bit when he feels the pocket is collapsing. With that said he could revitalize his career in San Francisco the way Sam Darnold did and in all honesty he is easily the best back up QB we have had under Kyle Shanahan which is a good thing because he may have to suit up a few games this season, if Brock gets hurt.

Performance: C
Potential: B-
Overall: C+

Tanner Mordecai - Tanner is a 2nd year UDFA for the 49ers from Winsconsin. Mordecai is a very interesting prospect. He is bit older being 25 going on 26 but he is having an impressive Spring/Summer. Last year in the pre-season I saw some flashes of being a capable QB. One thing that pops out is that the man is the best athlete out of all the QBs. He is fast when he breaks out of the pocket and his 4.53 40 speed shows. He also has a live arm but that is a double edged sword as it missed its targets quite a bit. The other issue is he fumbled quite a bit in college but hopefully thats been cleaned up some. There have been rumblings that he may be in competition with Mac Jones for the #2 spot but barring a disastrous preseason, he will make the team.

Performance: C
Potential: C
Overall: C

Carter Bradley - Son of Assistant DC Gus Bradley. QB from Southern Alabama. Bradley to me is a 3rd string QB with little upside. From what I have seen he played in a low impact offense in college where he wasn't asked to do much. He threw a lot of checkdowns and short passes with throws over the middle if the receiver was clearly open. One thing that bothers me is how late his release of the ball is, this is a technique issue as his throws tend to sail very flat and would be picks in the NFL, they were tips in college. Bradly to me was a system QB that kept the stakes low. In the NFL, he is a camp body who may make it onto the practice squad as a prospect but his ceiling is journeyman QB

Performance: C-
Potential-D+

Unit Analysis - Brock is the unquestioned starter, especially after that massive contract but I think Mac Jones and Tanner Mordecai are very solid backups should Purdy go down. But the teams's fate will be tied Purdy's health and performing like 2023 Brock. I am optimistic about this unit. It does not need to be elite. It just needs to play within it's strengths. Even in Brock's down year they were still a top 10 offense in yards last year.

Unit Grade: B-

Competing for a swing tackle spot.

I hope he turns out good. I do think when you have a team prime to compete and make it… you need to get good veteran Olinemen over drafting (cuz draftees need that time to grow)

But if you are in complete REBUILD mode, drafting is better cuz theres no expectation or pressure and guys can grow organically

The Yay
Greg Joseph just got waived even though he was winning the kicker competition :laff: I know my breh @yseJ will be dumbfounded by the news.
fukking ridiculous

the entire ST unit got replaced....except a bum ass kicker :francis:

I cant even chalk it up to kyle not wanting to admit draft mistakes. if moody is on the roster come the season he'd have more time on the team than trey lance and other busts like latu or trey sermon :scust:

Jake Moody is a bum. It's asinine to keep hanging on to him because we drafted him so high. Just cut bait and move on. He should have been cut after he shyt his pants in the SB and def after last year.

Saw the news and came right here for the Moody takes lol

Also c/s whoever said our schedule being easy doesn’t necessarily mean much. That’s the truth. There’s always a few teams that end up being better then expected and I’m sure we’ll hit a few of those plus “we play bad teams” being one of our strengths this year is a bad look anyway.

But damn football season is almost back!!
