Being solely a hip hop producer is not what's up anymore. You got to have side hustles...whether it's mastering records, making music videos, making albums, etc..

Frankly my thing is I have a 9-5, plan on djing at nights as the live performance aspect, put out original albums, and I hate to say it....I've been "catering" more towards the indie/electronic scene/audience. Hip hop audiences honestly could never fully respect or appreciate what I do as a producer.

So what if someone wants to do something one year and drop it the next. That's what they wanted to do at the moment. I'm pretty sure at one point in your life you were in to something, and now you're not.

And producers from the 2000's didn't give birth to this influx of beat makers, software like Fruity Loops did. Before then, entry into the production world was much more expensive and elusive.

And I don't give a fukk about this part of the culture shyt. Don't nobody need a pass to make beats, that shyt sounds ludicrous. I just bought a how to draw book the other day. Can I not learn some techniques and upload a video on YouTube because I'm not a part of the art culture?
culture bandit
nikka I will slap the shyt out of you. I grew up on the South Side of Chicago off 79th and Cottage Grove. My mom worked for the Urban League. I grew up watching shyt like Eyes on the Prize and with family friends like Kevin Powell. Don't you ever confuse me for some white boy that's trying to misappropriate black culture.

hatin ass old nikkas like you are so annoying
it's always either some nikka who has a room full of dusty gear he's still paying off who's still making shyt that sounds like 2003 because that's the "fundamentals" they learned or some nikka that fell off and no one wants to pay for his beats anymore because they also sound like 2003

Can we a agree a producer is a title?
Lets look at some other titles doctor, teacher, lawyer, firefighter, police officer, mailman. What do all these people have in common?
They get paid for their work, if you don't get paid for making beats you can't title yourself a producer.
 You know that right?
So if I can play six instruments but have never gotten paid for it, I'm no longer a musician? :beli: A painter isn't really a painter until his art is in the gallery? :comeon: A killer isn't really a killer unless he's convicted of murder? :troll: lol Since when has money validated anything? I thought the process of doing something is what makes you. If someone produces music as in makes music, they are a producer in my eyes.

The only thing we can agree on is that we disagree.

I like to be the bearer of bad news, and you nikkas need to stop dreaming and give it up. Because you are probably going to fail and be humiliated while shooting for the stars. 99.9% of you continuing to be a nobody with a fantasy
For every Kanye there are 1,000 Grump Mousigans...Who is that you might ask? EXACTLY
He told me he was going to be the next Dre, but instead he now lives outside a bus station and janitors molest him in his sleep

I work with 90% white folks...in my department I know 5 white boys that "make beats" and we just hired in another white dude in that says he does music as well. Two of these cats are in rock bands and all of them look like the last people on earth you'd expect to "make beats". When you say everybody is a beat maker...EVERYBODY really is a beat maker nowadays.

@Yagirlcheatinonus You should snap on chicks on Instagram half naked in a hotel room in Wal-Mart bikinis calling themselves models.

There are two separate roles going on at the same time in this video:
Metro Boomin made the original beat.

Travis Scott tweaked the arrangement of the beat.

Who gets production credit? Well they both should. They both contributed to the overall production of the track. This is the reality of how most good music is made. There is input from many different parties.

Everyone isn't a talented or gifted beatmaker.
