Well, Damn. If that's the case, do we have anything we can truly call OURS?

Black people invented modern music, every form of the music out right now is derived from some shyt nikkaz did, it is what it is, you don't see asians made that everybody doing martial arts they invented wit hit being extremely tied to their culture

That is kinda true. Gordy was not only scared of how black music was evolving but tried to stand in the way of his best talents from participating in it. If he has his way we wouldn’t have gotten Marvin or Stevie in their primes.
In Motown, Writers wrote, producers produced, and singers sung. Berry operated Motown like a factory and didn't even try to encourage artists to write and produce their own material. Berry even tried to talk Marvin out of releasing What's Going On because he(Berry) couldn't understand the songs and couldn't deal with the changing times. Marvin told Berry to put the album out or he will never record a note for Motown again and the rest was history.

Let a black woman perform a song by Selena. During latin Heritage month..

All that "people of color" b.s will be thrown out the window by mexicans.

Growing up in Houston, Selena was real popular with Houstonians such as Beyoncé, it’s only right she sings a few Selena songs on Cinco de Mayo

Smokey (and @Master Teacher) are correct.

This is the music business ...and Motown was trying to make money, so they made music for "everybody".
...and the hustle game was strong, word to Rare Earth (that's gonna go over a lot of y'alls heads...)

This is the same kinda thing L.A. Reid was talmbat a few years ago. LaFace was making "polished, pretty music"
to make the Pop stations because Pop catalogue generates more money than Urban.

Sidebar:
It's funny how someone can get upset about about non-Black artists wanting to perform Black standards, then give Ella Mai a pass for knowing any Aretha songs...
