Been watching Roots and Underground with my gf.

Powerful television with a message.

People who are complaining should just watch something else.

And yes, we need more Black movies about other subjects. That doesn't mean that we should stop making movies and shows about slavery. Anything that educates Americans that slavery wasn't some happy good old days bullshyt is a good thing.

Will Packer ain't letting that shyt slide.

'Roots' producer Will Packer addresses Snoop Dogg criticism, others

Will Packer expected critics to pile on following the debut of the "Roots" remake, and he's got a response for them, including rapper Snoop Dogg.

The rapper posted a profanity-laced Instagram video that lambasted the miniseries for debuting on Memorial Day and depicting the lives of black American slaves. Of all his work, Packer said the miniseries has been the most heavily criticized. His other work includes "Ride Along" and "Ride Along 2," "Think Like a Man," "Think Like a Man 2" and "the Perfect Guy."

“They’re uncomfortable revisiting the reality of that time,” Packer said. “I understand it. But at the same time, I vehemently disagree.”
When asked about Snoop's position, which went viral Monday, Packer said the rapper was entitled to his opinion.

“I think that while I certainly don’t judge Snoop at all because I’m very flawed myself, I just think the irony of having him saying and using the n-word, saying, ‘A real n-word like me wouldn’t watch this," Packer said. "I couldn’t help but think there’s a ghost of some horrendous slave owner that is smiling and smirking as he watches this black man say that and call himself that …I think that slave owner probably said, ‘Preach. I agree.’”

Packer believes in the power of being uncomfortable.

"I don’t think we should get too comfortable as a country, as a society or as a race of people," Packer said. "I think this is a story that’s important enough it should be told in repeated ways."

There is that deflective "black on black crime" talking point used to avoid the issue.

There is nothing educational about roots. The original roots was a fictional story.

If your family member was raped or victimized in a brutal fashion, would you want to see a movie graphically reacting it.

It's not about revisiting that time, it's about the enforcement of that graphic imagery of boss and dehumanization.

12 Years of Slave is a prime example. It's not a movie it doesn't even have a plot, it's a vehicle to show case the graphic abuse of black people.

This is some shyt the Joker would do to Batman sending him a tape of him beating Robin to death, it's a slap in the face. The c00n Steve Mcqueen ain't shyt, he should be on Willie D's c00n list, and he need his ass beat.

The movies had no point.

Amistad and Glory tackled the subject with graphic imagery but in a tasteful manor, and these movies had actual plots as well as being stories worth telling.

Roots isn't a story.

It's a reason why John Brown has never had a movie made about him
It's a reason why Fredrick Douglas has never had a movie made about him.

They just decided to make a nat turner movie because of complaints of 12 years of slave.

Yall nikkaz quick to let people piss on your back and tell you its rain.

Something can be powerful and have a message without being historically accurate. I'm sure you've read a Bible or Qur'an...

What's the message in Roots, it doesn't even have the a plot.

Every Chapter in the bible tells a story, there is no story in roots, Alex Haley claimed it was his family's history as if it was a biopic, and he was sued, he's a liar.

There is no storyline in roots.

What's the plot of Roots. It has no plot. It serves no purpose.

Roots is like making a movie about Malcolm X's hustler friend Spike Lee played instead of Malcolm

and when did I say Nate Parker is apart of a comparison. You always try to tell me what I'm saying instead of addressing what I said.
