Fair enough, some one hit wonders are just that, but plenty of pop artists have had a very long track record. From Madonna to Justin Timberlake, if they pander to their original audience they have tons of lasting power, but yes I will agree that there's plenty of pop artists that had better publicity than longevity.
As far as the pimp angle, everyone knew this guy wasn't pimping girls, and if you didn't you at least can venture a guess that he never had a hand in it. Which is the major point here, he literally vultured that lifestyle and rode it till the wheels fell off. Even Kat Williams had to drop the act. Of course plenty of artists steal from several cultures, that's nothing new, and considering where he came from growing up, its no surprise he wanted to emulate the style, for me however, it was corny.
What Snoop had, was flow....his own flow, he wasn't willing to compromise either, and that's fine, but if that's all you have to offer, its going to wear thin. Is he overrated for everything I just listed? Of course he is, however his laid back voice and attitude allowed for him to sellout appropriately...which is good and bad. The bad is; he's going to feel very overrated to a lot of people. The good being; he's deserving of it.
