So are you a fan of the "new" WWE style?

Flippy shyt! Big bumps! Finishers spam! Nearfalls! Every match!!

  • Love it, it's miles better than 5-10 years ago

  • I like it, matches are consistently better than before

  • Not a fan, it gets repetitive and losses it's impact fast

  • Hate it, everything ends up being meaningless and doesn't make sense

I'm just glad they don't have everyone wrestling the same fukking match anymore

But sometimes it comes off as they're tying to hard like yo we do this too in wwe

:jbhmm: most of the matches still feel the same, the action and style is different but most of the main roster works very similar.

I don't have a major problem with it because the matches have definitely improved across the board but I guess it's one of those things that gets more noticeable once somebody mentions it.

The one major problem I have with this is that the commentary fails to sell these moments properly. Prime example:

THE STREAK IS OVER!!! THE STREAK IS OVER!!! MICHAELS HAS DONE IT!!!! :gladbron:

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :damn:

In that moment, you know Michaels isn't going to win because the commentary makes it seem like he is. It ruins the finisher's impact because we know it isn't going to end the match. It happens every single time.

I don't know why they have to oversell every finisher and say "Is it gonna be enough?" or "Do we have a new champion here?!" like I'm supposed to believe that's it.

If that bothers you now, I don't recommend going back and listening to the Attitude Era, because JR did this shyt constantly and WAY WAY WAY WAY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more over the top than Cole ever did.

I don't know, maybe it's just today's commentators. I never had the :mindblown: reaction when listening to JR. It just made me more attentive to what was going on in the ring.

Lol JR is so hilariously over the top. The show where ECW and WCW join forces, he has the most OTT reaction maybe of any call ever in wrestling.

That's cause JR >*. The pure emotion and conviction in his voice could sell you on anything. With Cole (and JBL), you can just feel the feigned emotion
I always shat on Cole for this, but now that I think about it, hes seeing the same bullshyt every week with 0 storylines for how many years? shyt is garbage.

Also what I noticed is that these undercard and mid card guys are getting way too much time on PPV's. These are the matches that are doing all the false finishes and finisher kick outs that drain you and make the main event matches meaningless. Look at match times on old WWE/WWF PPV's, only main events get 17-20 minutes, rest are getting 6-10 minutes at best. What it really comes down to is we may like wrestling but we dont give a fukk about matches as much as we thought we did, especially when everything is obvious as all hell.

Idk, JR is literally comedically over the top on most of his calls during the Attitude Era. This is the same JR who was trying to convince you every week in 1997 that Undertaker was the greatest superstar of all time, then in 1998 when whatever PPV had that stipulation that Austin would be fired if he didn't call Kane/Taker down the middle became crying about how Austin was the greatest WWF Champion and possibly the greatest ever to lace up his boots. When Austin had only been a top guy for less than a year.

JR's screaming nonsense certainly has more emotion than anything today, but it's also SO over the top to the point of almost being narm at this point. For me, at least. I much prefer him pre and the first few years post Attitude Era when he still kind of gave a shyt but wasn't screaming at the top of his lungs about everything every show. MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR WWF SOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

He never got that from Gordon Solie, do you think put his own spin on what Joey Styles was doing at the time.

JR has always been hyped when announcing. He was losing his shyt as far as his NWA days (his best work as play by play, imo). He wasn't screaming hyperbole, but he was screaming anyway :pachaha:

I ain't havent heard JR's NWA days in a long time, but I always paid more attention/preference to Ventura, Brain & Lawler color then for the PBP guys.
