North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
I mean, that's cool and all but half of hip-hop back then was using the same samples. That in and of itself isn't some kind of smoking gun.

People were saying the sample and the name were proof BIG bit off this guy, which doesn't make sense. He had the name before him.

Fred.

No it wasn’t. Everyone had their own style and sound.

The problem back then is everything ran through New York. There are a ton of down south artists that you never heard of because they couldn’t get radio play in New York.

But like Jay Electronica said on Exhibit C, New York rappers jacked a lot from the South.

It is what it is.

Suicidal Thoughts - 1994

The song you posted was released in 1997 as a posthumous 2Pac album. :patrice:
Those were filled with (among other things) scraps from the original MATW album that Pac created pre-jail.

"My album Me Against The World was the second one. He had the first one. I changed everything 'cause Ready 2 Die came out and it sounded like my album. All my album was about, you know, dealing with death. N*gg* came out Ready 2 Die I had to switch it"

Note how "Ready 4 Whatever" is also on that album and from that period.

In before NYC cats come in talking about b-b-but Pac asked to work with Easy Mo Bee because he liked the work he did with Biggie.

Man what are you talking about?

Multiple rappers used the same samples. "Atomic Dog" got wore the fukk out. P funk in general.

Same with James Brown and Bob James.

Matter of fact....Keith Murray, UGK, Da Brat, Common Sense, and BIG all used "Between The Sheets".

Fred.

This happens in the industry all the time, i wouldn't be surprised if all of our favorite rappers are guilty of this, it is what it is :yeshrug:

Testimony from the crown eye ear witness :sas2:

Also, it was produced by Stretch, Biggie's homeboy, so it's easy to see how Biggie would have had access to/knowledge of it apart from Pac playin' it for him.

“In 1993 i was signed to a small record label called Dragon Records in Gulfport Mississippi. I had a song that i wrote to Mtume called Juicy Fruit. I wrote the song to the actual record and it was called Big Daddy. Big Daddy was the lead single off the Mississippi Dough Boyz Album that was released in september 1993. It was released on the same day as Snoop Dog’s first album Doggystyle. The dough boyz album was made by two Gulfport rappers Tilidie and myself The Notorious Bigg One. (Notorious B1). Yeah I had the name and song first. I know it might be hard to believe but it is 100% the truth. We was on the radio first and in in the stores first. We sent packages to all the major Labels shopping for distribution. Just image my surprise when people started calling me saying they’ve just seen my video. We was trying to get the truth out back then but after B.i.g’s death i decided to leave it alone out of respect. I’m not fat anymore and a lot has changed but before i leave this bytch I want everybody to know the truth. I was the original Notorious Bigg One.” 2Grams

:takedat:
so, are we really supposed to believe this story
when James Mtume whom actually was the musical Director for the hit TV show ‘New York Undercover’ which was Andre Harrell creation/control & puff mentor … that was how puff & Mtume got together and as they say the rest is history

we don’t believe you
you need more people

Ya know it’s mighty convenient Big just escapes all blame and can lean on peoples hate for Puff. And this ain’t the first time he gets that kinda pass either :patrice:

I guess it was also Puff idea to say a chick look so good….. :skip:

It is what it is.

Keep in mind that song is dedicated to him being a lost homeless Louisiana drug addict and coming to Harlem NY and becoming a Five Percent…Before going to Chicago and becoming a FOI.

When confronted about that he had no argument and acknowledged he himself sounds like an East coast artist.

Not to mention his entire debut album has more Jay Z (Brooklyn New York) lines than his own.

Terrible messenger.

Nah that would be Richard Pryor.

From what we now understand, it might have been more than an idea.

Puff worked in A&R. Probably heard the tape. Simplest answer is sometimes best :yeshrug:
