I'm more suprised he didn't want to drop Oskino and Sparks over the young gunz.
so every exec is just batting 100%??
all these labels top execs have been fired before (not Lyor tho).. go down the list starting with Clive Davis.
So nobody in here can come in here and discredit Lyor. His record is on par with any top music executive
Allegedly tho. And thats ONLY because they wanted Snoop right after Chronic-before Doggystyle came out. Suge became heated & thats why he had issues with Russell & Lyor over that.
They all went through him for a reason though. Irv brought DMX to Lyor... through that he got his own look with Ja.
From the Biggs interview, Rocafella had two options and the Def Jam one was the more attractive.
Of all the NY record label big wigs Irv had the ear of Lyor - that meant something. Even then signing DMX was going against industry trend.
Kanye he was very removed but he didn't drop him when he wanted to. That would've been a massive blemish on his career. He didn't, the people HE helped put in positions of power eventually believed in him and wa-la.
Don't know enough about Luda getting signed. But it all happened in the house Lyor help build at the end of the day.
Birdman didn't discover Nicki or Drake. But they came up under someone HE put in a position of power so he gets some credit
Lighty and Irv get their props though.I don't mind getting some credit, but its how much credit...Its funny how Dame and Biggs get all the credit when it comes to signings when Jay put them in a position of power....Yet Lyor gets the credit over a Irv or Chris Lighty....Credit just needs to be kept in proper perspective when writing the history books....I know this is the way it is in just about every industry, the man at the top gets to take credit for other peoples ideas and be the face....But if we keepin it 100 we know damn well why I don't appreciate Lyor being the face of the success..I'm seeing Eminem all over again, hopefully weve learned why its important to keep the credit in proper perspective,if you don't next you know top 10 and goat talk starts happening...Give em a inch and they take a mile

Actually, it's common knowledge that Lyor was ABOUT to be fired by Seagram's (before Irv brought Jay, Dmx, and Ja.) Irv saved his careerso every exec is just batting 100%??

Suge's dumbass didn't even have Snoop signed under a recording contract yet.
Absolutely. Jay just wanted those beats. I'd argue Dame was the only one one Rocafella that believed, (eventually) and even then he had his doubts. Even Bleek was really salty around the Late Registration era that Kanye was seen as the 2nd biggest act on The Roc, and didn't really think Kanye had paid dues yet. As people have noted, Kanye ended up paying the budget for Through the Wire by himself, premiering the video at Kay's 40/40 club, and then no one could deny it anymore.Jay Z was one of em.
I dont know if it was that tho, maybe it was distrubution or Death Row wanting joint venture deals & not artist deals. The Chronic came out thru Priority for example. Interscope was in the red at the time. But im sure after Chronic they recouped a lump sum & therefor started distrubuting (thru Time Warner).
Just a guess tho.
