At the beginning of mean streets
This album is a commercial success imo because album sales always matter more than singles. He's not a singles artist. GKMC went platinum, with some successful releases (propelled by him being featured and featuring on other hot rappers songs), TPAB has already gone gold and it only came out two months ago. Sounds like a success to me. He just hasn't had any successful commercial songs because he only released "i" and "Blacker the Berry" which isn't, in my opinion, really radio friendly. I still enjoy the album and it's constantly in rotation ever since it's release. It's not for everybody and it's been relatively successful. I like it a lot. I don't think it's a album I'll ever get tired of to be truthfully honest with you. :ld:

Breh you just said Kendricks hype only makes people hate on him. If that ain't dikk riding I don't know what is.

It makes some people spend extra effort to shyt on him

:mjlol:

To Pimp a Butterfly being "over hyped" is one of the major criticisms of the album. Come on dude, you're awful at this

sonically the album is trash. that's my biggest issue with it. and no, it's not too sophisticated. It's just dull trash. sorry.
You are just used to loud mastered songs. Kendrick said the album was recorded to tape because he wanted the warm feeling. I had a feeling that is a reason why some don't like it, and you just admitted it. Even I was put it off at first because I'm so used to a digital sound, but once played loud, and just listening to it, I like it.

I do wish he would go digital next time because I like the crispiness it gives, as long as its mastered right. I don't think TPAB is trash, though.

such as? Please elaborate.

:what: I don't give a fukk about all that goofy technical shyt. I just don't like the songs. If anything, I'm pre-disposed to tape because I'm in my 30s. I love the warm feeling that used to be in older hip hop. Now that everything's super clean and digital, it's taken away the feeling imo. And I HATE that. But that's a whole other convo.

If the song is great and digital, that's fine, too

Asap Rocky, and damn near most popular rap songs.

Hey, that's on you. Me, I'm not crazy about a "warm sound", unless its something like " The Chronic" or DJ Quik's stuff. Anyway, this argument can on, and on, so I'm done. You don't like it, I Love it, there is no need to call each other names over music, it aint that serious.

I kinda hear what you're saying, but if I understand your argument properly, that should actually benefit Kendrick. Not hurt him. To me.

Like I said, I grew up a music fan before mp3s. I'm not against tape at all. In fact, I wish more people could go back to analog to get that warm feeling. I always welcome warmth and grit in rap. It's yet one of multiple reasons I prefer Live.Love.ASAP over Long.Live.ASAP. LongLive is too clean. LiveLove is murky, warm and mysterious.

With that said, a good song is a good song.

I don't think it helps if most young people are used to loud, digital music. Again, I was put off at first, and I was a DJ who used vinyl. I'm just used to digital songs now, but once I got over that, and just listened to the album as a whole, I didn't care anymore.

You are right a good song, is a good song, but everyone's definition of a good song is different. I can't take listening to Asap Rocky too much because he raps about the same stuff a lot of times BUT he does make quality music. I just don't think they are good as a whole. He has so much potential, he just needs to find who he is, and not just be this image of "Asap Rocky". I think this is what kills him from expanding his lyrics, flows, and style.

Kendrick so desperate to get another pathetic week of buzz collabing with Taylor Swift
