An album going gold in a month in 2015 is not a flop in this thing called reality.
For an artist as huge as Kendrick Lamar, 40% of people would disagree with you and I'm in that group. So just keep it moving since you aren't changing any minds in this thread or in reality.
Just noticed youre from toronto and did a quick search and youre a drake stan :dead:

Now this thread makes perfect sense. Just another aggy drake stan with an agenda :mjlol:
Drake won.:umad:

The "sales" argument is always funny on the coli. It always changes based on the artist.

I'd say the album flopped in terms of impact I thought it would have. After 2+ years I thought once it dropped the album would have the world on fire all year long, but after two months you hardly hear anything about it. In my walk of life, people stayed talking/discussing GKMC, its the opposite for TPAB, haven't heard much about it since it dropped. Even hear on thecoli people that support the album really only talk about it when they have to come into one of these threads to defend it. The only notoriety the album gets is the critical acclaim its gotten. As a Kendrick fan I was terribly disappointed in the album.

Glad to see some other smart people on The Coli that aren't living in denial and stanning an album that they don't want to admit isn't really that good. For someone that gave us GKMC just 2 years ago, you would think this album would be discussed daily with threads uplifting it. People who like the album have been very quiet about it.

Kendrick hasn't even gone on tour yet. The album will be past 700-800k by the end of the year, and will be plat before next summer. In terms of singles Alright and These Walls can get him onto the radio. But I think the tour will do more for the album than singles.

Really baffled that Kendrick disappeared after dropping the album. Cole had his tour planned and ready to go after dropping his album. Obviously Kendrick has a lot of festivals lined up this summer but he could have gone on a mini tour. They should have just toured Cali in the lead up to the album release, spreading the buzz.
They got something bigger brewing breh just be patient :ehh:

If we want to talk sales, GKMC took 10 months to be certified platinum. After 2 months and no popular singles released, TPAB has sold over 560,000. GKMC was at 481,000 with its most popular single already out for months. TPAB has some songs that I think will make it have really strong legs. Just depends on the mood of Top Dawg and Kendrick.

I definitely think there'll be a shorter period of time between this album and his next than there was between GKMC and TPAB.

This is Kendrick's "It Was Written", 10 years from now, it'll be seen as a classic and underrated, it's just not the right time for it. The album is very solid and has few flaws. You guys want everything INSTANT, some albums become classic later down the line, let it marinate.

Exact OPPOSITE. It Was Written was celebrated commercially from jump out the gate, selling 2+ million, enormously successful singles, and being Nas' highest selling album to date. But it wasn't received critically in the beginning

To Simp a Butterfly is not celebrated commercially, and critically. Kendrick stans grasping for straws tryna align themselves with Nas :dead:

It's not a flop, but people are just reacting to the hype not matching the impact on the streets. It was a good album, but that's all. Like I loved the Cool but T.I. and Wayne had the streets.
