Draymond is one of those players that when the team is great and you limit him to do what he’s good at (playmaking, pick and roll, help defense) he’s great. Now if all those pieces ain’t together then
All I know is we never made the playoffs until he got here. Bring the core back and the coli back bytching about the dominance :sas1:

Why is it inconceivable to you that an All-Time defender could potentially limit a 39 year old KAJ for a game :jbhmm:

You nikkas sure love romanticizing past players my god these nikkas were human

because Draymond would not bother Cap at all. thats why. you want proof? the pistons couldnt slow him down from getting his season average or higher when he was 39 years old. that team was known as one of the best defensive teams ever, and they had a great defender in rodman who bothered shaq at times.

the core is older and getting hurt more often. so that dominance will never be like that again for those exact core guys. the core was finals mvp Iggy too. dont forget that.

he's old now and half hurt, draymond aint 90% healthy, he's probably 85%. and that aint good enough. he needs to be close to 100% so he can work on all of his game. i bet the real reason why he cant shoot any more is because he can't stay on his feet long enough to work on his shooting as much as he needs to in order to stay locked in and super accurate like he was that one year.

Yall remember when kobe's shot went to straight hell after the injuries finally caught up with him. same thing with draymond since dray is a mortal, and kobe was a robot. so it took kobe a bit longer for the injuries to catch up and he probably shot an additional 10,000 more shots than dray in practice alone to tweak and prep his shot for game time. when dudes start getting hurt. they usually lose that stroke if the were not that great at shooting . its due to a lack of practice time. but thats due to them not being able to practice nearly as much without going beyond the threshold for their new hurt bodies vs their younger unhurt body.

Draymond, like most players, is dependent on circumstances being right in order for him to be his best. People bought into his "intangibles" and "heart" and "leadership" and "toughness" and failed to realize that that ain't shyt if you don't have the necessary skills or fire power around you. Not to mention he ain't the tough, he's a bully with all bark and not bite. Basically a shorter, less talented KG. The thing that has really fukked him is his shot going straight to hell. During the 73 win season he was actually a threat from deep. His shot has gotten worse and worse since then. He's already undersized and not the greatest athlete and hasn't always stayed in the greatest shape and now the wear and tear is looking like it's catching up to him AND he doesn't have all that talent around him and you get what you see with him now. Him and Steph were in a similar boat in that they were very dependent on the likes of Klay and Iggy and eventually Kevin but because Steph was the golden boy shooting from halfcourt and Draymond had the "dog" people flipped it the other way around.
:dwillhuh:

Why generalize like this, when folks that praise his intangibles, heart, leadership, etc are completely aware that he's not a main option scoring player and therefore needs "fire power" around him? His strengths lie in what he brings as a playmaker and most of all what he does on the defensive end. Why are you acting like it's any different?

Folks that are defending him and/or questioning the OP are even pointing it out in this thread about his scoring ability.

Never mind the fact that he's only played six games this season (coming off an injury), so it makes even less sense to start this nonsense.

That's the problem with nyggas today they don't care about defense:beli:. If you cant score 20 a night you a bum then be confused when harden/KD/Russ all getting bounced out the playoffs. Draymonds defense is legendary especially for his size he was the main reason they could switch everything and still guard and rebound against bigs taller than him. I guess they should get rid of the defensive awards and only have offense for yall :beli:

Core ain't as old as the Spurs when they knocked off Miami. Show me your championship contenders in the west and tell me their average ages.

Steph ain’t no bum tho,I do think if he played with it Klay and KD he’d prolly be ringless,BUT still would be a top guard in the league,he the best 3pt shooter ever and can handle and finish at his size.

:what: If Bron didn’t play with D.Wade and Kyrie he’d have no rings, if Kobe didn’t play with Shaq and Pau he’d have no rings, tf are you trying to imply?

I think defense is still respected on the Coli. It’s more so the warriors 5 year run of dominance is over so a lot of posters are just trashing anything they can about the team. They’ve basically been waiting for 5 years for this moment. Let em rejoice :yeshrug:

That's not how the game works.

For starters, they weren't even the best defensive team that season, and '87 was basically the first year where they started to shift the perception to where they were a defensively physical squad. In '87 they were most definitely not at the heights of what they were defensively in '88, '89, '90 etc. You're generalizing their defensive prowess as if it was constantly at its peak throughout those years, when it couldn't be further from the truth. You either have only a basic understanding of that time or you're exaggerating on some back-in-the-day shyt.

Let me repeat: that '87 squad was NOT one of the best defensive teams ever, never mind the fact that they weren't even close to the '16 Warriors, defensively.

Due to the lack of defensive framework, and the rules at the time, players on the block were simply allowed to go 1v1 without having to worry about help defenders loitering around in their space. The '16 Warriors were great at defending bigs because they'd use Draymond or Bogut to front them and push them out of position off the block, and when they did receive the ball they'd have Iggy, Barnes, Klay, Steph etc digging down and forcing them to give up at the ball, as most teams do in this era.

The '16 Warriors would force Cap to give up the ball and force players like Magic, Worthy, A.C. Green etc to beat them from the perimeter. They'd employ a tactic of actually leaving Magic open and using his man to shadow Cap.

Again, why bring up Rodman in this generalized manner when he was a rookie that season, not a great defender, averaging only 15 minutes off the bench, and primarily guarding wings? That was NOT the version of Rodman who bothered Shaq at times (which was nearly a decade later), which funnily enough when he did defend Shaq it was a team effort.

Referencing some box scores of Cap's production to prove a point that Draymond/Warriors couldn't defend him in this context is meaningless, for this simple reason:

Los Angeles Lakers at Seattle SuperSonics Box Score, April 2, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 10 points on 5/15 field goals, 4 turnovers
Los Angeles Lakers at Los Angeles Clippers Box Score, March 9, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 10 points on 4/10 field goals
Boston Celtics at Los Angeles Lakers Box Score, February 15, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 10 points on 4/11 field goals, 4 turnovers
Los Angeles Lakers at Milwaukee Bucks Box Score, December 10, 1986 | Basketball-Reference.com - 10 points on 4/15 field goals
Los Angeles Lakers at Utah Jazz Box Score, February 28, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 12 points on 3/13 field goals, 4 turnovers
Sacramento Kings at Los Angeles Lakers Box Score, February 4, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 12 points on 4/9 field goals
Los Angeles Lakers at Sacramento Kings Box Score, February 10, 1987 | Basketball-Reference.com - 13 points on 4/13 field goals

And the list goes on.

None of those teams that held him to subpar production are fukking with the '16 Warriors on the defensive end.
