Scanning backlight (240 effect): LG, Toshiba, and Vizio use what's called "scanning backlight" technology. Such TVs use MEMC once to get to 120Hz, but instead of doubling the interpolation, a backlight flashes on and off very quickly to achieve what Toshiba calls a "240Hz effect." LG, for its part, fails to make that distinction and uses the 240Hz term without qualification to describe its scanning-backlight models.

^^^^^^those backlight sets are known to bleed ALOT...especially the egde lit ones

And yea all these companies sell 120hz sets and try to pass them off as 240hz...that's why you gotta do your own reseach before you cop a tv

I fukked up last year copping a Sammy LED that was 120hz and had that 240hz clearmotion bullshyt :snoop:

Yea I researched this before buying...it really does look like raw 240hz....I have a 40 inch Sammy with "true" 240hz and my lg looks just as good if not better. Its one of the mains reasons why I bought it...I LOVE the effect.

Promethius in 1080p with dejudder and de-blur cranked up to 10 = looks better than real life lol

They are not all equal though. I researched and went to sears like 3 days in a row bugging the hell out of the clerk to show me all these sets hz modes. I came away with this.

MOST sets...the difference between 120 and 240 visually is not that noticeable...sometimes not at all. I have a keen eye for the differences.

Lg's "faux 240" looks just as good if not better than the Samsung's raw 240/720.

Vizios 240hz modes looks more "live play" ish ..hard to explain but it looks different than what I seen on Sammy's and lg's.

Samsung tvs is grossly over priced at retail lol

All the reviews say there is not that much difference between 120hz and 240hz. Enjoy your product though homie. :rudy:

240hz is irrelevant. nothing broadcast in anything higher than 60 fps anyway.
broadcast tv is either 60 fps or 30 fps most video games are under 60 fps and many are 30 fps and movies are 24 fps. basically the TV duplicates the frames to fill out the excess of anything above 60 hz.

It helps in a lot of games.

For instance...in 240hz mode on my TV...gears of war appears to run at 60fps. I prefer how it looks in motion over how it looks in standard mode (in 30fps).

that's not helping that's you basically adding input lag into your game by having your TV add new frames to your games that don't actually exist. the whole point of game mode on these tvs is to turn off all the post processing the tv does to the video signal so that you can get the minimal amount of input lag. game mode dumps the raw signal to your tv that the console puts out.

when you have that on the console sends the image to the TV and the TV then has to process that image and put it back out to you. the console by the time the tv has processed the image is running ahead of the tv so when you input controls to the console what you're entering is somewhat delayed because its ahead of you.

I hear you... But personally I notice no difference in my skill in game. I played the whole single player tomb raider in 120 on my Philips and I wouldn't have it any other way...made the game look amazing lol.

I was referring to 1 player btw...I seen no harm in the gameplay and i prefer the look immensely lol. Its to the point now I can't play any 30fps games without it.

Hopefully the next gen I don't have to feel with many 30fps game at all lol.

Mainly though...I dig it for movies. Some movies and especially anything animated looks amazing with it on.

You just got a bad tv. Lg should have gave you a new tv. Sucks cause when you take that back you won't likely be able to get a same level tv for the same price. The 8600 is a flagship model from last year.

am i the only one that has basically not had a problem with an electronic item failing?
For the most part I never really had any problems with any major electronic purchase I've made either. I had a pc monitor die on me a year after purchase but that's it.
