Hopefully then he'll realize the REAL reality which is many Blacks have to make it ON THEIR OWN with no camaraderie from ANYONE. I realized implicitly at the age of 19 that I only had MYSELF and CLOSE FAMILY, thankfully my family is not as dumb as the OP family relying on emotions to make decisions and form perceptions on life.

The reality is both Blacks and Whites hate successful Blacks who buck the mainstream. The closest thing we will have to the Japanese concept of "Nakama" or "In Group" is each other of similar mentality which can be found on the internet or among other minorities in America in major cities who buck the mainstream in their own cultures and that of dysfunctional American politics and ideology. I have a Bangladeshi and Colombian friend who share my ideals and would lay their life on the line for me and vice versa. No Black person outside of my family would do the same.

I think hitting him was more about appeasing your anger rather than getting your point across. I for the life of me can't understand the mentality with some of the posters who think that striking someone is going to change how someone thinks or feels about something.

So many of us perpetuate behavior that reaffirms stereotypes. OPs brother will feel even further from the fam and like he is begin ganged up on.
This is the type of incident that leads to typical family rifts in our community that spans decades.
