it's a dive, some hole in the wall frequented by alcoholic cacs. i work near there, and the beers are cheap, which is why i decided to spend an hour there while catching the second half of the game. anyway, this scrawny little cac twerp walks up and sits with a group of people that had already been there. i'm texting on my phone, sipping some beer, and paying little mind to those around me. but i over hear him say to one of the people at the table:

cac twerp: so, i just got off a plane. there was this black guy on the flight who saw some arab looking guy, and he said, "i hope there aren't anymore of those people."

cac twerp's friend: *laugh* why'd he say that?

cac twerp: i don't know, but i was thinking, "this black guy is acting like he's scared of this arab guy." i just came from detroit, and i was there thinking the same about the black guy. that place is pretty scary. their mayor is going to jail. the whole place was run by blacks and it went to shyt.

anyway, the game comes back on. i'm finishing my beer, still questioning what i just heard. i didn't say anything, and maybe i'm overreacting. was he being insulting? is it possible he didn't see me, despite the fact i was sitting a seat away from him. was he trying to goad a response out of me? i look "mixed," because i am, and it's possible he didn't think i was a "black" guy. but, i don't know think that's it.

i mean, i was sitting in plain view of him, just one seat away. but perhaps you're right. maybe he didn't see me. i think he was trying to push a button and see how i'd respond. i've just never found myself in that kind of situation before. i'm kind of glad i was alone, because some of my friends would have definitely said something.
