Okay but the question is is it a wrap for him commercially.

In this day and age you can never totally write anybody off. All it takes is one song to be hot again.

A few years ago Tyga was a joke and was more known for f#ckery in his personal life than music. Now he’s completely revived his career.

I agree. Tyga album flopped though. But all he needs to do is drop singles and he's good.

Wayne had the GOAT comeback though.

Dej Loaf
Fetty
Young Ma
Desiigner
Rich Homie

They all might be done though :mjcry:

Wale can come back, all he needs is one hit song. He needs to humble himself and try to use his connections too because that is what messed him up along with the Shine album. I guess he didn't like the way Album about nothing performed so he decided to switch it up but Shine wasn't it.

Tyga is a great example.

Appreciate that, bro. I've been a fan since those Nike boots days and it always hurt to see him flounder like this but it started making sense unfortunately

Yup, Cole hit the nail on the head. Crazy people tried to pit them against each other after this like Cole wasn't saying what wale needed to hear.

After Budden was talking about all this potential beefs involving this class, it made me wonder how many involved Wale/Wale coming at people. I don't think Cole and Drake ever had serious beef with each other. I can see Kendrick having beef with Cole early on and later with Drake, but I can see Wale having beef with all 3 as each one got bigger and bigger as he fell out the spotlight.

It's weird remembering that wale is in the same class and had a bigger spotlight than Cole and Kendrick for a long ass time until that single with Gaga flopped. the animosity between those 4 must have been nuts at the time

Cole and Kendrick been close for years, before Friday Night Lights in fact.

As you said tho, at one point Wale was that guy. Cole used to open up for him. I remember when a lot of us thought he was gonna blow. He had a nice mix of underground appeal (doing projects with 9th Wonder) and clearly had pop appeal for the masses. But the label fukked him on that first album. Moving to MMG was good for him...I know some people disagree but I could see Ross' vision. He wanted Wale to be that...Kanye to the Roc. Not as a producer, but as an eclectic artist who can get bumped in the streets and by the chicks. I just don't think he put enough work in on the road to build that fanbase. And many of his hits...if not every single one...had a feature which makes it hard to really build a career (see: YG).

Ross saved his career and elevated Wale to another level.

That first MMG album -Ambition is Wale’s most successful project

His hardcore fans covet the Gifted Which I don’t think we get without MMG

Never understood the section of his fan base not thinking signing to MMG was smart

Yea. Interscope fukked up on the first album, ngl. I feel bad for every rapper that signed with us back then...your career was fukked more often than not. They got their shyt together a few years later obviously.

In terms of MMG...they gave him what he needed. But even then he was complaining and bytching lol.

Been a wrap for a minute. His ego was his downfall and I honestly get it, but the success he found in his lane and the validation he got from people he admires (bro had Seinfeld, a fukking billionaire, doing outros/intros on his shyt and he even hosted a marathon iirc) should have been validation enough.

But I feel him. He's incredibly talented and everybody knows it, but I think his lyrical depth and persona makes him far less endearing than somebody like Cole who positions themselves with his fanbase. Cole had the same problem of being too artsy/rappy while trying to become mainstream until he found and settled into his lane with his core audience.

You can't consider yourself as a poet and expect that to push you to success alone. When he tries to do radio shyt with the right people, he hits it out the park but he seemingly doesn't want to do it or he burned enough bridges that he isn't able to. His catalogue is full of actual gems, like he legitimately makes better songs than a lot of people out right now; he's just so offputting that it's hard for people not into him to look into him

Like if Cole didn't have such a steady and dedicated fanbase, that he worked his ass off to maintain, then he would be in the same boat for the most part because social media would have you thinking people HATE Cole and the shyt he raps about. Wale never put that time into nurturing his fanbase and instead went on the offensive towards everyone

I feel for him. And it's wild seeing him go from being constantly hyped to this. My nikka was ahead of his time doing collabs with Gaga and shyt
He's the ONLY real big time rapper from DC until like Goldlink and kinda Shy Glizzy showed up.

He should have nurtured his talent base in his hometown like Meek, Ross, and countless others do but no...he chose to wanna be an employee.

He could have locked down the mid-atlantic, and he chose to kinda be lazy about it.

Its a business and he failed to capitalize.
