I don't like the idea of drafting any of these QBs with the #7 pick. I'd rather go after a guy like Cardale Jones (even though they say Chip dislikes Black QBs) I think he'll be available in the 3rd round, he's raw but he's got a rocket arm and can be coached up.

I think Jones can be a good starter but he's several years from being ready. Drafting Jones makes sense from a long term standpoint but front offices don't often think long term. Your GM York needs to win games.

I'm ok with Gabbert starting and having Cardale develop. Gabberts not a world beater but we have good runningbacks. I think this is the draft we need to focus on replacing Joe Staley by getting Ronnie Stanley. We have enough picks to trade or draft players. I think the fanbase will not crucify York, if he builds the team the right way. We're not going to be better than any team in the division outside the LA Rams, so I think we need to see proper development and progress of the players we draft and the ones we drafted in recent years. Also picking some well known veterans that fit in the system would be nice too.

@JLova is closer to right than you are. Gabbert is unlikely the answer. His average air yards per attempt last year was on par with Alex Smith's and his adjusted yards per attempt in 2015 was far worse than Alex Smith's. These numbers imply that Gabbert sucks. Therefore Niners shouldn't factor Gabbert into the forthcoming QB equation. Any of Goff, Wentz and Lynch has a better chance of being a franchise QB. If Goff isn't available draft Wentz. If Went isn't available draft Lynch.

If you're not sold on Goff, just draft Wentz or Lynch, or Cook in the 2nd (if he's there). QB is the most important position and comes before even defense. Goff is not the only good QB in this draft. There's about 4 potential starters with possibly a bust in there somewhere (Cook or Wentz).
Alex Smith line was a 100%better and he had a slew of Rbs. Poor comparison. With more talent Gabbert would have performed better. Nobody said he was the future but he deserves a chance. None of the QB's are worth 2nd rounders either. It's a real weak qb draft this year.

I'm not sold on Goff either. People keep pinning him as our 7th pick but i just don't see it. This draft is purely defensive and I can see Baalke getting Cook and letting him ride the bench with Gabbert or Kap if no trade is met going into the season
Yeah. I'm thinking LB or DE with 7th. I don't think Cook is that good either but as long we don't waste our 1st on Goff. I'm good. I'd prefer the Niners look to take a qb in the third or fourth. I just don't see a qb out there worthy this draft.

Kaep/his agent basically bet on himself again (just like with the team-friendely contract)...and lost again. I bet he thought teams would be fine taking on the contract and view him as a shoe-in starter...doesn't look like it so far. He can't have his cake (trade) and eat it too (keep the salary).

I don't see Baalke budging from here. It'd be an ultimate insult to his ego to trade a player below his perceived value AND eat his salary AFTER he couldve cut the player and not pay a dime.

At this point it's all the Niners fault. The well dried up quick with trade interest. They should have cut him. Now they are stick with this bum paying 12 million for him to be on the bench.

Hopefully this is the end of this nonsense and it's time to move on.

Now get Buckner or Jack and that would be a great way to start off the draft

at this point, if Kaep is not gonna throw any tantrums about playing time, hes probably worth more than 8m wed have free, even as a backup, just to see what he can do with Chip. and he did show up for that workout bonus :lolbron:

I mean, I can see the cut angle, but also maybe they felt genuinely they can get a good value for him and teams wouldnt want kaep to cut his salary or that he would be fine with it because he wanted a trade :manny:

The Niners' offensive line was good enough for Gabbert to put up better air yards per average that Smith; he barely did. The line was good enough to do better than Smith overall; Gabbert didn't. Gabbert's performance last year--which was actually only as good as Kaepernick's to be fair--wasn't good enough to pass over a top QB in the draft. Furthermore the QB draft isn't weak at all. All, some or one of Goff, Wentz, Lynch, Cook and maybe Jones could become a franchise QB. If Kaepernick is still on the team come training camp he should compete with Gabbert and start if he beats Gabbert.

:whoa: the line play was awful last year for both Kaep and Gabbert. compared to the line play last year, Alex Smith had an elite line while he was here (at least under Harbs, after they dumped Chilo).
