We need to stop normalizing “hard work” as honorable for black folk. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely pushed on “minorities” and groups from lower socioeconomic backgrounds that working yourself into the ground for your family is something to be proud of. Whilst the “elite” of the world are taught to work smart not hard.

I wish I could take the collective of all black men who have low self esteem and teach them to want better. So many of us (not me) are raised around people who didn’t make shyt of their lives and so they expect that’s the best they can do.

I’ve got a long ass story about a friend I helped get an apprenticeship years ago and now he’s making six figures but his life before was so pitiful, shyt was sad. Even he said to me straight “I feel so mad for years of my life I was taught that I shouldn’t expect to want better in life.”
