I don't think he's a producer producer, but to his credit, he has very good taste and quality control. As far as his work is concerned, when you look at the Bad Boy catalog and the projects he was associated with, his record is incredible. You really don't hear any bad music coming from anything he's associated with. So nah he's not a beatmaker or really doing much behind the boards, but he knows his music and what sounds good. He's not going to let anything whack come out if he has anything to do with it.

Puff's still a producer though. Again, this is lost on people who equate producing to making beats and playing instruments. If a person alters any part of the song, they can argue a production credit and ut can be something as simple as turning down an instrument, adding an instrument, taking away an instrument, or even the simple suggestion any of the aforementioned changes. Artists themselves have gotten co-production credits for that.
