The Nets and Knicks are in different situations though.
Having Lillard /Kanter /Favors would be nice, but for a team that was moving to a new arena, made a move to try to win now that was applauded, with a new owner tryna make his mark, rebuilding was only gonna be an option if they couldn't have kept Williams. The Knicks and Nets are where they are because trying it through rebuilding and developing and doing it the way other teams try to do it just gets frowned upon because it comes with a lot of losing, and with this city, we tune out losers so fast.
Can't put it any better. The Deron trade at the time it was made was a good deal because this wasn't a Melo situation where he was coming even if we didn't trade for him. We lost out on Melo and basically fell into the trade with Utah. No one could have predicted his ankles turning into dust, and when he is healthy he has played well for us but he can't stay that way. I have no issues with the trade and will never have any, it's not fair to look back and act like we all knew Deron would start breaking down.
The Wallace trade is unforgivable, just a pure panic move with no thought from King. He feared Deron leaving so much he thought getting a name would help, yet he picked Gerald Wallace and then used the dumbest excuse of all time "We only like 3 players in the draft so if we aren't in the top 3 it don't matter". It's an unbelievable statement to make, just because you don't value it doesn't mean it can be used to get another piece come the Summer.
As for this season, I still like this team if they can get it together. Problem is Deron and Brook go down, Pierce can't find his jumper when he's getting open looks all night, and we don't know what KG we are getting, he looks good for a few minutes then all of a sudden looks like he's 50. Then our bench which is really good has to play starters minutes, and while they are good for 15-20 minutes guys like Livingston and Blatche can't give you 30-35 good minutes and then have guys like Alan Anderson getting 20-25. When this team was 100% in the preseason, I know the games don't count but there was ball movement and open looks on Offense, and they were talking and helping on defense. This roster as it was intended is not a mess, but the situation we are currently in with the roster is a mess. If everyone comes back and we still look like total garbage then I'll give in, but I still think there's a slight pulse with us.
I'm not gonna mention our Head Coach other than that he need to be fired, it's as simple as that. He's not ready for this situation.
