Truth be told, Comedy Central has been known as a network targeting 18-49 white males throughout its history.

And no, its not like Chappelle chose BET or TV One over them for his show (or the other way around...).

Also, his main creative partner for the Chappelle Show on Comedy Central was Neal Brennan.

So you gonna work at a job that pays less and your career work would be less appreciated because it has more black people? What everyday working person does this?

Also, black people aren't allowed to work with white people in any creative endeavors is what you're saying?

You don't have to live in DC to attend the art school he went to.

He lived in Silver Spring MD

"Dave Chappelle was born in Washington D.C., USA. He lived in Silver Spring, Maryland as a young child. After his parents divorced, he returned to Washington D.C. to live with his mother"

"When he moved back to Washington to attend high school, he started at Eastern, but he was having trouble adjusting. And he wanted to get out.

After less than a year at Eastern, he and his mother decided he should transfer to Ellington."

Anyway I guess Chappelle would be ok with people if he only did that “white peoples do this while black people do that” type comedy.

I been feel this! :ohlawd:
I started to notice too many black comedians go this route to the point it became a trope. Chapelle be telling stories and nikkas mad because he doesn't spoon feed them 'wYpIpO iZ cRaZy YaLl'

I'm a Dave Chapelle fan and have been following his career since the early 90's, don't get me wrong Dave is a great comic (one of the GOATS) but let's not pretend like his status in the community isn't 'mixed' and it has always been that way. Dave did not come up in the chitlin circuit (not saying that as a negative) but Dave always appealed to a diverse crowd. He's had quite the career. I think people are going with the 'he's for white people' is because whether intended or not his more recent material is being used to prop up right wing talking points.

Tell us you think Dave Chappelle's career started in 2017 without telling us you think Dave Chappelle's career started in 2017 brehs

:mjlol:

This has been the narrative attached to him his whole career. Nikkas were not rushing to watch Half Baked and some of his earlier specials. It wasn't until his show took off that he got everybody. .

yea
anyone who thinks this is a new narrative probably discovered dave chappelle from the chappelle show
before that he was basically known as a black comic for whites. maybe a modern comparison would be Lucas Brothers or even Donald Glover (in terms of audience and relevance in the black community stand up wise)
point is i almost never heard black people talking about dude stand up until his show blew, he def wasn't being lumped in with chris rock, jamie foxx or who ever else was considered top tier by black people back then

btw i see ppl making this argument but your content doesn't really determine your audience, or if so only to a certain degree
i went to dead prez concerts in the early 2000s. they whole content was fukk whitey but 95% of their fans back then were....white people :mjlol:
i actually learned about them (and slum village) from all the rich cacs who had their patches on their bookbags at my private school :dead:

I mean that's cool and all that you can pull up his wiki but i was going by what he actually said. It got cut out of this promo but during his special he talked about growing up in Silver Spring.

Either way it's not really that serious.

You guys are equating his meteoric rise in mixed spaces with a lack of popularity in exclusively black spaces. Dave was never viewed as “comedy for white people” just because he never achieved heights in exclusively black spaces like other “traditionally” black comics. It was never an either or thing with a lot of the highly regarded black comics(Pryor, Chappelle, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock). It’s just now being revised that way with Chappelle because of modern day politics, side choosing and box placing. Black ppl by and larger didn’t view Chappelle as “That comic that white ppl love”. He may not have been as popular as the other black comics within black markets, but he had his niche audiences and a small following in those spaces. It was never either or until his rise of popularity amongst white ppl, and other somewhat popular black comedians(who also gained a smidge of white popularity) wanted to take shots and create this narrative for whatever weird reasons.

Talking about trans people is some white people shyt. I ain’t gon lie… who gives a fukk about trannys. Let’s talk about something more interesting other than Trannys.

You can rate Chapelle specials by how many times he uses the mic to slap his thigh and signal to the audience to laugh. He did that about 220 times this special, the most amount, making this special the least funny of his.

killing them softly, had one thigh slap.
