So what exactly is that whole "I never heard him get played in the hood" arguement supposed to mean?

Being an "intellectual" has nothing to do with formal education.

Exactly, the hood is full of some of the greatest philosophers of our time, and I'm not just talking about the rappers....where else do nikkas have thought out philosophys on everything from puzzy scents up to how the universe works:banderas:...WHoever the modern day Socrates is,I feel like I know at least 20 hood nikkas who could take him down in a debate, have him sittin indian style and gettin a a new perspective on life:

THis argument really is the end all be all of arguments, its that argument suburbanites and hipsters, and artist who they love try to downplay the shyt out of....But in reality they are very insecure about the fact they favorite artist get no love in the hood, and so is that artist....Possibly insecure because they themselves didn't fit in and were considered weirdos.....So what do they do?Lash out at the streets and everything in it:mjcry:

Its funny it works the same way in life as it does with hiphop, you find that either suburbanite nikkas either reject the hood and everything about it,secretly upset and feeling like a outsider....Or you get the suburbanites who try EXTRA hard to fit in and often end up in a bad place,or forced to get that wake up call they not about that life:whoa:

The streets gotta realize we made these people feel like outsiders forever in real life and hiphop unfortunatley,Now the floodgates have been opened where their opinion actually matters with the internet where you can fake having a credible opinion, and hipster blogs....They are simply giving us a taste of our own medicine trying to make us(the streets) feel like outsiders now:mjcry:

But in the end just remember deep down they still feel like outsiders and want that validation, as much as every rapper ever pretty much has wanted....this is really one of the few arguments that cant be debated OP.

I agree Jay and Nas didn't get play like that, but if you make that statement, you would quickly be corrected by nikkas from hoods(especially from east coast) lookin at you like you crazy.....Kindve like what happened in this thread actually when you said that:mjlol:

Not that you were innacurate, cuz folks never believe me when I say my nikkas would rather listen to Bleek and Beans than Jay,and I'm a Jay stan myself....But alotta nikkas really only want to hear that hard shyt if that's what they used to,Jays delievery and subject matter is too "light" overall.

But I feel like you already probably know that, because everybody can kindve get a feel of whats getting play in other hoods in different regions, especially if you post on a hiphop message board....This is one of those "for the sake of argument" threads:comeon:.

But I appreciate it,alotta ether and venom getting passed around in here:laff:

props on the Mac Dre,Andre Nickitana and Brotha Lynch mention, folks don't realize how much hood nikkas fukk with Brotha Lynch nationwide surprisingly actually in the midwest, cuz you might think he would fall into that "weirdo" category on paper.

Back when I moved to Kansas City I thought I was gon have to put nikkas up on classic bay area shyt, maaaaan nikkas knew ALL that shyt:obama:

classic smart-dumb talk. Big on arrogance*, small on reality.

Like I said, all good. :lolbron:

*insecurity

And yet you're the dumbass who thinks that an education is required to be an intellectual. Like I said, this is only the latest time you're gonna embarass yourself.

You don't have that rep and that WOAT banner for no reason :pachaha:

i see y'all say this a lot about artist(usually only the ones y'all don't like) but please explain to me what this is supposed to mean?

Because I can think of several artist y'all respect that I've NEVER heard anyone in the hood play (I.E. Nas, Jay-Z, K-Rino, Lupe Fiasco etc)

But I have heard the hood play somebody like Drake, who everybody knows ain't from the hood.

So what exactly does that arguement mean and why is that supposed to be a diss?
I use it to diss rappers or albums that i was told was hot by media vs actual people.

:dead: @ the Cali posters acting like Jay and Nas don't get played out here

Nas doesn't get played out here in the Bay like that, the only song from him that ever got burn like that was If I Ruled The World.

Jay-Z got hits but his music doesn't really resonate out here like that either. Outside of Bay Area music, Boosie and Lil Wayne/Cash Money had Oakland on LOCK in the mid and late 2000s.

Thread is kinda all over the place.

9 times out of 10 "I never heard him in the hood" is short hand for "I think this rapper is getting more attention than he deserves so I'm going to derail that". Because usually "it don't get play in the hood" means "it doesn't get play in my small circle of friends in this 2 block radius we hang out in".

Which is fine but once people start trying to argue the relevance of that, it's a problem.

No really disagree. "i never hear dude in the streets" has a lot to do with whether a rapper's success is organic and authentic or not. Let's remember how rappers used to pop. They usually had to be poppin in their own neighborhoods first and word of mouth would get into the right people's ears and then they would get put on. These days with the internet that process is still relevant. You put your songs on the internet but you need friends and ppl to share it before it gets noticed.

If the club is playing your record over and over, its because the people want to hear it Say all you want about payola and the radio but at the end of the day, radio has to play what ppl want to hear. Once the budget runs out, ppl still need to request the record or shyt getting dropped from the playlist.

Having your songs buzz in the streets means a lot if you care about the culture. if your songs are impacting lingo, your verses being quoted/referenced all the time - that is a sign of ppl really fukkin wit you.

I had never herd of k-rino till maybe 6 or 7 yrs ago wen scarface brought him up as a underground tx mc who hes a fan of.

But he is legit in my eyes cuz face brought him up and his music represents somethin

@biscuitsnbangers k-rino has tracks about the moonlanding and LSD so keep an open mind

@The Ruler 09 biscuit seems to acknowledge her bein an outsider to the hood but not to the culture.

I think you guys actually have more in common than youd think.

I mean for starters you both have assigned artists duties lol

I got nothing against K-Rino. The reason why most people on here clown him is because of The Ruler's stannery. Look up every anti-K-Rino thread on here and I guarantee he has the most posts in all those threads. People do this shyt to get a reaction out of him and it works every single time.
