Ever since I learned the phrase, I've wondered what it says about society in general that this can be considered a scathing insult to someone's character. I am aware the phrase, I believe, in theory is meant to be belittle "online activisim", which may be in some cases annoying, but not worthy of insults, on it's own. It seems to take aim at anyone who isn't concerned with white, pure capitalist, selfishness. Sadly, there are MANY among us of all races, who may not use the term or be white supremacists or nationalists, but endorse that belief.
"Bleeding heart (liberal)" is another similar phrase, which I personally hear all the time. The PG version of alt right terms. Yes, my heart does "bleed" for all sorts of people, everyday, yes, I want to change the circumstances of the poor, less fortunate, disenfranchised. Yes, it bothers me, that kids go hungry in my city, and no one seems to help or care.
Then they break out the tax dollar spread sheets whenever humanitarian issues come up, 'Well, it's just not practical", "can't save everybody", "what have you done for these people", which of course are all invalid arguments, and betray that it's not everybody that concerns them, its anyone and everyone besides themselves. Even sadder is that these people now occupy the top positions in government, from Ayn Rand worshipping Ryan, to Pence, to the president himself. I think the most tragic aspect is that these beliefs are in fact deeply integrated into American culture, and it's how we are taught to think about the world, from a selfish, self centered position.
