This sounds like a cac problem. I don't know any black people that go through what the OP is talking about.
I'm gonna say it.

No offense...this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. So fukking stupid I'm actually embarassed for you and I don't even mean that in a negative way.

I make these threads on mental health because mental health is understated and rarely discussed in the black community.

And responses like yours...are why. "Oh only white people deal with that."

This is actually insulting to black people in my opinion.

Not to mention...Black people in america are living in a white society where at most times they are dealing with so many stressors. Racism, discrimination, prejudice alienation in large white or non-black crowds and situations stemming from work to school to other places. Let's not even discuss the past 400+ years and their impact on the mental health of black people period.

Infact...I would probably say that due to all of this and more we are more prone to mental illness than any other group just due to the unique nature of our situation not just in America but on this whole planet as well.

By the way...I'm not calling you dumb or anything...I'm just saying your statement couldn't be anymore shortsighted.

You're wasting your life. You won't live forever. You gon sit around being scared til you drop? Or you gon go see what life really has to offer?
Most people deal with social anxiety on some level. The people who are winning at life choose to ignore it and persevere.
It's not that easy for some people. If it was...social anxiety would not be an issue.

There are people out there who literally cannot be in social situations without getting jittery, breaking into sweats, or even at extremes getting into bad panic attacks with include hyperventilation and light-headedness. Are you going to tell them the same thing? They would absolutely find it insulting.

I never get this whole tough guy "deal with it" approach to mental health and mental illness. Some people actually benefit more from treatment and medication that would be unable to even perform the simplest tasks without it.

Another reason i make these threads...so i can offer some insights into the complexity of mental health and mental illness.

Even the most successful people in the world have dealt with or deal with anxiety or depression. It doesn't make you any less of a man to admit you have a problem and you need help with it. Lord knows where I would be without the treatment and medication i received.

I don't care to be around people who don't like me and I'm not taking any shyt from them either. Is that considered social anxiety?
Hmm...that can be one of the manifestations of social anxiety but i wouldn't really consider it social anxiety. If you can still be around large groups of people without an issue i wouldn't necessarily say so.

Btw...for those who want a detailed list of the symptoms of social anxiety here's a helpful website.

I guess I don't have it then. I hope anybody suffering from it can get through it somehow.

I think I have a touch of depersonalization disorder which usually is a part of anxiety. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a fog. Like there's a glass wall between me and my experiences.

Go back and re read what I said because it completely went over your head.

But if you still don't get it here's the breakdown - In this world you either put your concerns and interest first or put them last and carry out someone elses ahead of yours. It's no middle ground. That's just the rules of life. I wish life could be like a children book were everyone was living life in a team effort and the sun is always shining but that's not reality. SO i was saying, learn the rules of life and play the game to the best of your ability. Most of society doesn't care about your problems or you in general.

Here yall go. This thread was productive

It's not everyone else's fault that you are the way you are. Most people aren't scumbags
in general majority of humans are selfish and this generation especially lacks empathy

this generation is called the Me Generation for a reason

Now that i think about it...my social anxiety is why I like being a loner so much and why i prefer to be alone most of the time. I have my friends but their my friends cause we share things in common and they cool folk. That's it. After I'm done hanging out with them that's it. I go to my apartment read clean cook and blog and go to sleep.

It's the main reason i don't care to be in a relationship either. The last thing i need or want in my life is some woman i barely even know trying to change me. I'll admit I'm kind of a grimy dude. Not grimy as in dirty or unclean but I just exude a very non-approachable vibe at times. I like to swear. I got a rough beard at the moment. I'm kind of a brolic shaped dude. I smoke cigarettes. I drink. I do drugs. I like to skateboard in my spare time. I have anger issues still from my younger years that I'm trying to overcome still at 31. I got a standoffish and rough demeanor. Women show interest in me but most of the time I'm not interested in them. Or i find a reason to think they aren't interested in me.

I just do my own and it seems like there absolutely no women out there that appreciate that. They like the idea of me...but not actually me as a man or a person. I just see how most of them just tend to prefer these type of dudes that are "acceptable". And that's not me.

So I just tend to be alone. Avoid talking to women. Avoid talking to people I dont know period.

And another thing...this helps me to type this because I honestly think this is the main reason i have social anxiety and tend to stay away from social situations.

As a first generation Nigerian/West Indian American that grew up in white suburbia...i never felt like I fit in anywhere or amongst any group of people at all. My family secluded themselves and didnt really go out of their way to interact with African Americans. And honestly i felt like i just couldnt relate to africans or west indians that i met cause i was just too americanized.I went to predominantly white private schools but even though i had friends there i never really felt like i fit in. The black kids saw me as an "oreo" "white boy" and a "sellout" and as a black kid there was no way in hell i was ever going to fit in with the white kids so i just had my own circle...of skaters punks stoners graffiti writers in high school. While everyone else was making waves when college came and they had girlfriends I had nothing and no one. Some flings....never anything serious.

So now i just kind of have this bitterness and a chip on my shoulder. That comes from never really having a place for me to flourish or really feel like I fit in. From watching others being able to adapt to this social framework and succeed that just seemed so elusive to me. Everything that seemed easy routine and normal for other people seemed like impossible tasks for me and i feel like like race and ethnicity provided some roadblocks to actually trying to make something in this environment. Have relationships get married have kids...it's now to the point I don't even see it happening and if i got to be alone for the rest of my life so be it. I've been in my own little world for the majority of my life...it's no big deal.

I think this is the one thing about social anxiety people don't realize. You could fit in have friends be social have girlfriends/boyfriends whatever and still suffer from it. I'd rather be there than just being alone dealing with it...but if i have to be alone I'll just accept it and try to make the best of a situation or just get the help i need to break the cycle.

Nah. We fundamentally disagree. You can put you and your best interests at the forefront of your life; be assertive, prosperous and happy, all without neglecting other people and only interacting with them when using them benefits you. That's not some great new social secret, that's just being manipulative, and if you are actually around people with some sense, they'll see through it and that'll be counter intuitive to your aforementioned goal to use people.

You're correct that the majority of society doesn't care about you personally; but to use that truth as a validation to disregard all individual members, is a silly choice to me. Let people expose themselves; assuming the worst of everyone and operating that way doesn't seem efficient to me.

No way social anxiety and depression is just a CAC problem. Look at all the problems in our community. We've got to be kidding ourselves if mental illness isn't a big contributor.

There was already another article posted on here that proved CACs believe our perception of pain and suffering is lower. Ironic because that perception is itself a perception and nothing more, it is not scientifically proven.

You had propaganda during slavery that Blacks had the mental function of animals and could never learn to read. A lot of CACs were truly shocked when we displayed sophisticated methods to bring each other to freedom in the North. One could say that CACs are dumber than us for the mere fact they allowed foolish assumptions to trump scientific evidence in underestimating us.

However, the numbers are not large enough so they continue to delude themselves that the "token" Blacks are "more evolved" when in reality they are just HEALTHIER AND LESS BRAINWASHED.

I don't like too strong Hotep perspectives on this issue but I will say there is an active agenda to keep us dumb, ignorant and in the lowest state of health possible both mentally and physically in this country. The U.S. federal government needed a scapegoat in the 80's so they let Pablo run free in Colombia which ultimately resulted in the Crack era in poor Black communities. People down on economic luck will lap up a cheap drug in 70-90% of circumstances because trailer trash CACs do it too with cheap forms of Meth.

Mental illness and street drug addiction go hand-in-hand in our community. I won't even touch the legal pharma racket because now THAT is largely a CAC problem.
