Damn, 1998 was so bad the creators killed it :picard:

Revisionist. Bill Campbell basically blocked off EVERY exit on 85.. effectively turning it into a gridlock hellhole. No way it was coming back from that.. but the party was pretty much over by then. I remember getting out of my car and walking down the interstate to a sea of vehicles.

1998 was when it went so far from what it was supposed to be, but 1996 was the catalyst for that due to the Olympic preparation. In wrestling terms, it’s shyt going off the rails in 1999 after the Fingerpoke of Doom but shyt was already going bad after Hogan beat Sting.

Pretty much everyone was saying that by '98, the event had changed from "Black College Spring Break" to the crowd being older and more aggressive. Like the hood started coming out and, ultimately, killing the vibe.

I was a kid during all of this so I have no idea.

94 and 95 were bar none the wildest years. 96 brought in a lot of police presence that's to be expected with an impending olympics but it still was crazy. shyt, 97 wasn't too bad either.

That's what people say, that 94 and 95 were the best ones. They also say it was safer for women then, too.

45 minutes into this, and I don’t see anything REALLY bad yet. Kind of being presented in a “just us having fun” type of vibe. I guess if you want to see/hear about the real foul shyt that was happening, watch that old Freaknik doc from MTV, like 1998 or so. That doc was ROUGH and is the one that needs peoples faces blurred. Keep in mind I do have exactly 30 minutes left in this current doc and that’s plenty of time for the tone to shift.

EDIT: welp here’s the shift come 1996 :dead:
It’s not nearly as bad as people thought it would be. When I saw the blurred faces I laughed.

Oakland
just capturing the culture of the 90’s is :ahh:

there was so much I looked forward to as a kid looking at gen x in the 90’s - their house parties, the short haircuts the girls/woman had, music, feaknik…and out here, festival at the lake. all that shyt was deaded by the mid-late 90’s tho and my HS/college years were so different :mjcry:

still better than this bullshyt gen z is living :scust:

I also remember the big exodus to ATL in the 90’s, so many people, from Oakland either went to school there and didn’t come back or just upped and moved there
