Again I ask you, how does the army want ''a more democratic state'' given their history in Turkey?

You can't rewrite the definition because you don't like result breh.

Quite hypocritical.

Millions of Turks happen to like him enough to vote for him back to back back. Why are you advocating for military dictatorships :jbhmm:

Well thats the point. It depends on who will take over. If one of those corrupt generals take over it wont be any different. If someone like Fethullah Gulen takes over I see a brighter future for Turkey then with Erdogan. Please dont forget the only reason Erdogan participated in the Syria BS in the beginning was because Assad is a Alevit. This isn't just about democracy. Its also about tolerancy towards more religions and people.

Anybody actually have any insight as to why the military would attempt a coup?

They used to run the country as basically a military dictatorship. The country was inefficient...corrupt and broke. Erdogan curbed military power...oversaw a huge economic boom in Turkey in which millions benefited so they voted for him in back to back elections. The military want their position back.

But people in the West apparently do not like democracy and prefer a military dictatorship because the military are extreme secularists that ban hijabs in public institutions (which even Europeans do not do). :francis:

The military in Turkey follow the beliefs of Ataturk, that the state should be secular. Ofcourse, they too have their agenda.

There's been a rift in Turkey for quite some while since Erdogan introduced more islamistic and conservative views.

If this coup is authorized by the top military brass then it's gonna get spooky... Turkey's gonna be divided since Erdogan has heavy support from the islamists.
