We should have realized that gaming is going to be in digital only format in the future with the rise in native storage space and the cloud. This has it's downsides mind you (collectors editions cool pack ins) but the overall potential is immense even if it means the downfall of the new/used game market.
Yep. Steam, App Store and Google Play already use this format so there's no reason why console video games shouldn't also adopt this model except to preserve their relationship with game retailers like GameStop, etc. From a publishers perspective, they have everything to gain and nothing to lose (except maybe upsetting die hard video game collectors).
If this happens, questions about backwards compatibility become a little bit less of an issue.
the used games market is irrelevant when games are so cheap to acquire. I just got the new Devil May Cry for $15...

Not true, even with that Gamestop still makes 75% of its money of used games, systems and accesories, some are easier to get than others.

i think we need to worry about BC Access of all of our DD games before we go into that, i was just about to buy Persona 3 FES but it will not be playable next gen.
