I oppose the salary cap. It solves nothing.
And in that time, the Pirates owners were given a plot of land and $216 million for their stadium.2 playoff appearances since 1993. It’s openly being acknowledged that they’re going to eventually trade their best player because everyone knows they’re not going to pay him. Nobody can credibly say the pirates as they operate are not bad for baseball. A few years ago the reds held a fire sale and basically told the fans to change the channel if they weren’t happy. I’m supposed to think that teams like the Mets or dodgers are the ones hurting the sport though?
The Othani contract is what f*cked the entire game up. There was definitely going to be fallout after that.
It's nicknamed the Cohen Tax. The draft penalties exist. There's a desire to not go over that apron just like in basketball. It can cost you in the international market. Even team in big markets are terrified of it.Look what your Celtics had to do this off-season. Of course Tatum's injury played a huge part. Imagine something similar in baseball.

Can you imagine bad baseball general managers with a salary cap? Teams with bad front offices would go on long term skids like the present day jets or 1993-2012 pirates even more frequently.People are like “the salary cap works in other leagues”
How? Because of “parity”? What a joke.
In basketball we’re about to watch the two teams that just were in the championship get all of their role players, who were important to the teams identity, leave on deals that are not possible to match.
In football your star quarterbacks end up wasting their primes because once they have proven they are stars they are no longer on rookie deals and the team can’t afford to pay the players.
In both sports we have superstar players taking pay cuts so that their supporting cast can stay. Why should the player take a pay cut when the owner could just pay them more? Because the owner cannot just pay them more because of the salary cap.
There is enough chaos in sports with injuries and hot streaks that we don’t need a salary cap for parity.
Not like there’s parity in the NFL anyway…
baseball is not basketball or football. in those sports there are players you pay to want to see. Baseball trades those players away to teams with money.People are like “the salary cap works in other leagues”

Be funny af if Mannfred mandated that clip be played at every Phillies game. Worst commish in all of N. American sports by a country mile![]()
Get the fukk outta the clubhouse you piece of shyt !!!
Nope @VegetasHairline say everything is fine because he the only person who watches baseball.I'm all for players maximizing their worth, but the disparity in baseball is crazy. If you a fan of the Yankees, Dodgers, and other large market teams you hate a salary cap. If you have a handful of teams that have insane payrolls, and most small market teams have small payrolls why even have 30 teams? What's the incentive of a fan of like the Pirates or Reds to spend their hard earned money to watch teams that suck year after year? A team located in OKC would have a difficult time winning a championship in baseball unless they have great scouting and win with a young team. Then they would see their young stars leave in free agency after 6 years. But a team in a small market like OKC can be the best in the NBA and pay their stars.
MLB at least has to have a salary floor. Scum bag owners like John Fisher just pocket the money they collect from other teams paying luxury tax.

Steinbrenner spent huge in the 70’s and 80’s too while his spending led to just 2 titles in the last 10 years he owned the team. It’s not a guarantee that it’ll lead anywhere. The 2005-08 teams didn’t win a single playoff series for example and missed the playoffs once.
The Dodgers have spent big the last decade and have two titles to show for it, one was a Covid title.
The Royals and Rangers have World Series titles in the last decade.
The problem with MLB—and America society—is we’ve accepted the wealthy people’s perspective as the correct one.
I've already had this argument on here before about a cap in baseball and too many of these guys want to bury their head in the sand (a lot of them are NY/LA fans too).I'm all for players maximizing their worth, but the disparity in baseball is crazy. Always in contention? They’ve missed the playoffs entirely more than they’ve won their division since 2013 despite multiple teams in it refusing to spend any money at all. From 1981-93 they missed the playoffs every year.I mean, it's like saying PEDs aren't a guarantee that you'll hit 50 HRs, but it certainly helps to tilt things in your favor a lot of the time
The Dodgers & Yankees are ALWAYS in contention, whereas other teams come & go because they can't just throw money at people the way they do.
You brought up The Royals & The Rangers.
Both are already mostly out of contention![]()
