Ed was one of my favorite MC's as a kid, and Youngest in Charge was one of the first albums I had back then, along with Legal a year later. And "Think About It" is one of my favorite tracks of all-time, but Ed ain't got the catalogue to mess with Long Live the Kane and It's a Big Daddy Thing.

Kane had some filler on the second album, but his classic tracks on both of those first two joints are mad iconic for the culture. Very few have had classics on the level of what Kane dropped from '88-'89. Shoutout to Ed though. He used to have a studio in Flatbush that we would go to back in the day, and spend mad nights at, working on all kinds of music. He's still one of my GOAT's.

Bro, you my guy, but if you pull up the tracklists of the first two albums for both and go song for song, Ed got better songs.

Youngest in Charge alone.. aint even gotta use the Legal album.

Taxing
Think About it
Im the Magnificent [especially the Remix]
Fly M.C. over that break beat is crqzy

Ak shun
The Bush

Kane albums not messing with Youngest in Charge. Ed was only 16 at that.. he had Slick Ricks swagger without the chains

Howie Tee actually came off better than Marley production. More well rounded at that.

Go song for song..

This song was unreleased from back int he days and made an album called 8/8/88 later on which came in 07 I believe. He said they sped up the vocals some and it was from the Revelations era I believe but he killed this shyt. Sounds like Vintage Ed to me.

Another fave from the album Legal. ED was nice AF back in the days.

Ready to Attack:noah:

I been rockin rhymes and I been rockin mics
Ever since you was on BMX bikes
You was busy braggin bout the mags on your honey
I was in Flatbush tryin to get money
Brooklyn, crookin up the whole damn place
run your truck jewelry, don't turn your face
But I don't resort to those sort of things
I don't wear big chains or big rings
Gold was stole from caves full of slaves
Now black-on-black, and you're free as Waves
In the ocean, without a notion
Am I surfin fast over your head?
Maybe you need glasses or classes in Special Ed
Let me see
I can fit you in on Monday at three
Tuesdays is use days
And Wednesdays is friends days
And Thursdays is her's days
And Fridays is my days
And Saturdays is fun days
And Sunday's the one day
I rest, give thanks and bless
Again on Monday I will be back
Yo Ak, get ready to attack

One thing Ed did that was dope was end a rhyme in the middle of bar and pick up to the next rhyme.. just ahead of the curve with that rap shyt

One of Flatbush's Finest :blessed:

I'm kinda spoiled 'cause everything I want I got made
I wanted gear, got everything from cotton to suede
I wanted leg, I didn't beg I just got laid
My hair was growing too long, so I got me a fade
And when my dishes got dirty, I got Cascade
And when the weather was hot, I got a spot in the shade
I'm wise because I rise to the top of my grade
Wanted peace on Earth, so to God I prayed
Some kids across town thought I was afraid
They couldn't harm me. I got the army brigade
I'm not a trader, if what you got is greater I'll trade
But maybe later 'cause my waiter made potato and alligator soufflé
I got it made...

Ed came out at the right time in hip hop as far as making creative dope albums, but the wrong time for longevity purposes. Victim of those wack ass 80s Indy labels.

Dude is only a year older than Nas and younger than Jay.

Let me add to this because I also think if he would have linked with a unit like Native Tongues and Q Tip production, he would have skyrocketed career wise.

I'll throw in "The Mission" for Ed too. I still listen to that religiously.

But Kane's first album is probably the most vocal-sampled Hip Hop album, of all-time.

Raw
Set It Off
Just Rhyming' with Biz
Love Live the Kane
Ain't No Half Steppin'

That's just on the first album. It's mad rare to get 4-5 iconic tracks on a debut. Those 5 joints were all huge records when they dropped, but they're also easily some of the best Hip Hop joints ever to be recorded. Special Ed was damn near my favorite rapper when he came out, and Howie Tee was crazy with the beats forever during his run, but I'm pretty sure Kane's first album is why he's Top 5 on so many lists. He raised the bar with Marley in '88.
