Yeah, but if ownership was happeneing back in the 80s when shyt was dirt cheap, then gentrification wouldn't be so big in the first place :ld:

Black folk gotta start practice ownership where ever we go to. Can't be renting for generations on end and still feel like you have the same rights as a person that busted their ass to own a place. :manny:

Besides, no one ever came up with the solution to OWN anything in these public hearings. Only talking about why is rent so high.

If people cared about the next generation and their lives to be easier, they would try to find a place where they can pass down to their kids,rent-free.

hard to practice wealth building and ownership when we are still economic slaves to materialism. we like to ball and show off with the latest gadget/s, whips(car notes), enjoy cruises and exotic vacations, simp our disposable income in casinos, 50'inch tv's in every room, $200 a month cable bills etc. etc. instead of saving and investing like new immigrants do.

That is true. For NYC, it is too late for black folk to save it. We fukked that up and we have to build our own places down south. That's the bottom line. We could have bought the abandoned buildings in the 80s and 90s, but people were too concerned about running in the streets, "living life" with the craziness of the crack epidemic, and all them excuses. Now in the mid 2010s, Places like Brooklyn is Manhattan 2.0 with the remaining native minority population hanging on to a thread.

I have to agree. I still don't understand how can a family live in one area for 4-5 generations and not ONCE did they think of ownership, :mindblown:

Do some black folk love seeing their kids "pull the straps from the boots" philosophy so much, that they forgo generational wealth JUST to teach a lesson?

Where did your mother come from?

Cultural reasons and a lack of education is why people living in NY for generations didnt plan on owning anything, it never even crossed their minds, their priorities were all wrong.

I agree it's cultural, there are Puerto Ricans & African Americans who have been socially mobile of course but in general these two groups are about that government dependency life way more than all others. You will find West Indians over represented in the middle class black neighborhoods in Brooklyn (yes they do exist) and i don't think that's a coincidence.

I blame the fact that people got too caught up in that fast life and not think about their legacy. Problem is, AAs solution is to move down south and continue with the same mindset. Don't get me wrong, there are black American folk down south that are on that ownership mindset, but they never have that collective mentality up north.

When you consider Black Hispanics, Carribeans and Africans not Black then yeah
They are only the buffer for what is to come. I know you may not see it as such, but these people can have those "hispanics" Caribbeans, and Africans out in 60 days. I read the article and did the :what: face too but I'm able to realize that, that is NOT THEIR end-goal. :yeshrug:

High ownership will make it much harder in places like Crown Heights and Harlem.

Spike went in, he spoke 100% truth. I'll be damned if some new hipster is going to move into my hood and try to tell me I can't do something i've been doing since 1968. What pisses me off is that North Jersey is feeling the effects of it too. The hipsters who can't squeeze into nyc are trying to take over here in certain parts. It shouldn't cost 1,000,000 dollars to live in Hoboken.
NYC gentrification is messing up New Jersey rents too...

But gentrification is not geographically exclusive. It's happening to major cities all over the world.

I blame Millenials. They need a plac to "figure themselves out" after wasting 4-6 years and thousnands of dollars in college since there aren't any jobs anymore.
