I don't understand what you're arguing or defending.

I'm saying that in some respects, I don't know how you want "blacks" to maintain an area, when blacks aren't investing in themselves enough to be proud of their own areas.

Being black alone aint gonna cut it.

I don't want to live next to check cashing spots and hair supply stores. I just dont.
It's simple. You made a statement, I had a response. Not so much an argument as much as a general conversation.

Blacks don't have much. Banking is a ceiling industry like Airports and stuff with a high cost for entry. Since Blacks only want the best, do you think many are running to the few Black owned banks that exist? I go to a Black owned bank. I love them too. Most of us don't have that and most can't even get into the industry from an ownership level and a lot of your workers are heavily taxed.

Being Black alone ain't gonna cut it
huh? What are you referring to?

Who said you had to live in the projects where we don't own the stores anyway. Who's to say Blacks create their own stores and what not but wait... That would involve a community which involves communication which most Americans completely lack nowadays. Blacks trying to become Whites did us in. It did us in because the only way we can change is if we start to communicate with mass intentions. Radio is too national, I am locally and often.

Hes right at a certain point gentrification gets to be kind of fukked up. My uncle lived in Brooklyn because he was broke trying to make it as a writer, but he cant even pay rent now. This second wave gentrification is a fukking joke. Its like a Disneyland for rich hipsters :beli:

its already happening.

Go to Houston, DC, and ATL....even Charlotte a little.

Entire neighborhoods of no nonsense blacks and minorities getting TO it.

Majority of my neighborhood is black upper middleclass in the suburbs of ATL. Yup.

Black people should create their own jobs, gnat. Those Black residents in NYC are on borrowed time and no amount of complaining will change that. I'm more of do'er than a crybaby ass nikka like you, though :manny:

unfortunately, this is true. we all know that at the end of the day money talks and those areas are in prime locations. My father, grandmother, and grandaunt all live in a co-op on 147th/7th ave (Esplanade Gardens) each in 3 different bldgs. It took him 12 years to finally get in after applying in '77. He paid 5k for his 1bedroom then. The same 1bedroom now is 16K and there is a nice ass waiting list for at least 15 years now for that. shyt is insane.

All projects will be gone in a matter of time. And you really can't get mad at the city since none of the residents own the property. The ones that do own property in the areas being gentrified are cashing out big time.

All projects in major cities are on borrowed time.

Its a race thing because the affluent people tend to be white :cacmj23:

Exactly.

For gentrification to occur, there needs to be a Gentry class.

gen·try
ˈjentrē/
noun
noun: gentry
1
.
people of good social position, specifically (in the UK) the class of people next below the nobility in position and birth.
"a member of the landed gentry"
synonyms:upper classes, privileged classes, elite, high society, haut monde, smart set;More

Black people, hispanics, asians, etc...in America aren't defined to be known as gentry classes simply due to the lack of business ownership and collective wealth.

C'mon. Dr. Claud Anderson in the recent State of Black America said that he knew two white men that had more wealth between them than ALL of Black America COMBINED...do you think we had the power to be a gentry class consider what's happened to us in the past 50+ years since the end of segregation and civil rights? He said in the same speech that black Americans became a permanent underclass last year!

Some of y'all must think these problems can be easily solved when you don't know the basics of economics, private property, and all of the red tape carried within that most of us aren't even aware of let alone educated on.

:wow: dude totally sonned them with the Christopher Columbus analogy

That was on point. The hipsters have a colonial mentality when it comes to the cities they occupy and eventually change to fit them and not vice versa.

And then they act like they "discovered" it, "gave it life" and the NYT (a classist piece of toilet paper) writes numerous articles about it (cause they cater to the moneyed classes and gentrifiers) the neighborhoods become "hip" and "up and coming" and then the original residents are forced to move because the prices go up and all sorts of tripe (yoga studios, coffee shops, bars, vegan restaurants, doggie day cares, etc) is built to reflect the new direction of the neighborhood.

White people were scared as f*ck to go to Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx (hell outside of Manhattan) for tha matter back in the day. My black ass still can't catch a cab from the city to Brooklyn to save my life but some lily whitebread Ethan or Molly from Wisconsin will get the golden ticket and something to put on their facebooks to their boring moonfaced friends back in Iowa on their whimsical taxi ride by Shahib the taxi driver who couldn't wait to get that white people money to drive from the city to Brooklyn.

They ruining this place and they know it. The funny thing is Spike said this, but I bet the majority of the crowd were some of the hipsters he rallied against thinking that "he's not talking about us".

That is the truth about alot of cities. Once upon a time long ago alot of these cities were all white. Once black people gained the same financial status they moved into the neighborhoods and the white people didn't like it and moved out of the city. Eventually the neighborhood went to shyt for whatever reason. So give it another 50 to 75 years and we can have our beautiful blighted neighborhood back.

Black people (mainly freed slaves) moved to Northern cities in the 19th century/early 20th century after Reconstruction/The end of slavery. There were black communities like Seneca Village that were eventually destroyed to create stuff like Central Park and had their history completely destroyed and all public records removed.

White flight (like you mentioned) occurred due to race riots in the Civil Rights era. There were riots in major cities all across America (and those were sparked due to the assasination of people like Martin Luther King an Malcolm X). That was mostly the reason they moved in massive numbers and fled to the suburbs. The suburbs were built to house the and not us...in fact there were laws and fine text which allowed real estate agents and developers back then to completely shut out Black Americans from purchasing homes in those neighborhoods (they came to fruition during the post WWII segregation era). Low Income housing developed really in response to the suburban sprawl in big cities.

I think its the local hipsters that really fukked everything up.

I mean first of all... if someone wants more out of life then what Midwest suburbia has to offer, youve gotta respect that. Also keep in mind that it used to be practical to get an apt in Brooklyn or Queens. Manhatten prices are insane as we all know

But thats the first wave of gentrification. Once neighborhoods are generally regarded as "safe"... theyre going to attract different crowd.

I know the type, man. Its the hipsters who grow up so rich and sheltered that they just lack a broader perspective on life. Hard to come across in the midwest, where people arent so entitled. But on the Coasts... especially in NY, dudes are all over

Can't they just move to a cheaper area like everybody else would do in this situation? This happens all over the world all the time.

:snoop:... You'll see sooner or later if theyu keep with construction there's gonna be no place for the poor and struggling and disenfranchised. the same shyt is gonna happen here in NYC just like San Francisco... it will be horrible. Just imagine a studio 3,000 a month, with no amenities. except heat and electricity and sometimes you wont even get that if you dont come outta pocket.
