Just saw this on Netflix. His mom must really hated that lil niguh.
Unless his moms really believed her father was "cured". I don't know. I'm surprised he did not try to molest his grandson though I believe Flick woulda stole on that niguh. I personally thought Flick is a decent actor. That little girl needs to give it up all together. She sound like she was reading the whole time. Terrible. Not surprised by the twist. Spike obviously, does not like Christianity, the church (i.e. Jungle Fever.) This was his "Django" to get revenge on White Jesus, Black church. They shoulda had build up for the twist instead of exposing him as Bishop Eddie Long out of the blue. I mean it's worth a Netflix watch but nothing else. Never will watch it again. That Blood leader was decent as well. But clearly the best part was the twist. Classic chaos Spike scene.

This shyt was pretty bad. boring cinematography which is surprising for a spike lee joint. Way too fukking long. And terrible acting, from the kids especially. Its like...OK i know your a kid...I don't expect you to be riveting and showing all ranges of emotion. but these little nikkas dont even know how to deliver a simple line without it sounding like it came off a piece of paper. shyt was awful. And a Clay Davis cameo just so he can say "shiiiiiiiiit"....really...that shyt served no purpose whatsoever. One of the worst Spike Lee films I've ever watched.
FInished this the other day. What was the point? I didn't get it at all.

^^^Like some of Spikes other flicks.. It's gotta bunch of ideas/topics/themes thrown around throughout the movie (black culture/pop culture/gentrification/the economy,etc.) that are addressed at various points throughout the movie.
The second aspect of it is that it's an update of the various people and characters from the neighborhood who've been in Spike's earlier films like we see Mookie (played by Spike) still serving Pizza's for Sal and Nola Darling from She's Gotta Have it pops up as a Jehova's Witness. While also introducing some new faces like that blood cat..
The OTHER aspect of it is that it's basically a satire/parody of overtly religious church culture. The followers, the preachers, and even the entertainment business (movies and books that preach that god/religion will solve all of black peoples problems).
