You do realize that they might be actually manfacturing this labor shortage crisis as a reason to bring in automated jobs or phase out certain low skilled jobs do they dont have to pay 15 dollars in a lot of places? Create a crisis to solve a crisis. They basically saying that yall dont want to work so lets use robots for workers and make you shop online instead.
If that were true, it would require massive investment on the companies part - again, the jobs that are having these issues the most are fast food, retail, and restaurants. These jobs aren't easily automated. Fast food places are heavily franchised, many restaurants are privately owned. Based on the nature of the job you can't just have a robot replace a worker. The tech isn't there yet. Even if you could, there is the political aspect of it - people don't want robots serving them their food.


Since when did corporations need an excuse to reduce headcount? The been sending jobs overseas for over 30 years with very little pushback from the powers that be. Increased automation wouldn’t be any different.
