Here are some. It was kind of time consuming to find all the credible sources so if you guys want more then you will have to add on to what I am about to post:

Health
Black men 18 years and over who currently smoke: ......23.7%
Black men 20 years and over who are overweight: ........71.8%
Black men 20 years and over with hypertension: ............41.4%

In 2009, black men accounted for 70% of the estimated new HIV infections among all blacks. The estimated rate of new HIV infection for black men was more than six and a half times as high as that of white men, and two and a half times as high as that of Latino men or black women.

There are 2 threads bout mentoring lil nikkas. The 1st one got clowned to bolivion bc nikkas was bytching bout raising somebody else kid and one I made which got ignored. Which shows me a lot of us are out for ourselves then complain bout our community :beli:

:lawd:..preach brotha. That thread was disgusting. Mentoring comes in a lot of ways. Ain't nobody saying you got to feed and cloth other people kids but as a brotha in his 20's what you say to a 13-18 old kid could impact his/life. Just drop a dime or two. Give them your cell phone number. Let them know they can call with questions about school or different situations or something.

Just over Christmas I ran into two youngins from church. Put them on school options for college, rotc, etc. These boys about to enter the real world and they don't know how to pay for college? :smh: Just a convo and two days later, I'm answering my door and the youngins just stopped through to hang. Showed me their little high school skits they do on YouTube or what not. Hit them with have they thought about theater majors or something. Point is just a convo and they wanna hang out. They got my number and they know they can call me whenever they need something. :manny:. It don't have to be much but we got to look out for these boys.

:to: My pops hit me with the real and said his generation failed to do what we are failing to do and that's reach back. You are a role model whether you signed up or not. They looking at how you walk, talk, dress, etc. Don't fail them brehs.

the problem is that other avenues of success or not that easy to find
rappers, entertainers, athletes success stories are everywhere for young black dudes to gravitate towards

no other lanes are presentable to them and even if they are...it seems so foriegn to them they cant fully understand the dedication and motivation it took...

name one black success story we have outside of Jayz, obama, or some other mainstream bullshyt?
one black ceo story? black invention story? we aint got none

the dudes that truly want success are gonna get it however
the drug game killed off alot of black doctors, scientist, lawyers
thats a big ass gap we still aint bounced back from...the dope game( crack specifically)...it had the same effects as slavery
lil dudes need to be motivated in different ways besides the athlete, rapper, entertainer image

but i agree wit you just addin my lil 2 cents
I get what your saying but just cause those black successful faces are not in the mainstream don't mean they aren't there.

It's 2013, anyone can type successful black man/women in google. Take obama. If you research him you see sacrifice and hard work. How many examples of black success do you need to see for it to click. Gone are the days of the excuse that its no positive role models in the hood or on tv for black youth.

I'm for certain, give a hood dude an option to be like jay-z or Obama, he's gonna choose jay.even if he knows the success rate is slim to none. And still choosing jay knowing that following obamas path may not take you to the president, it still has many more alternatives than dead or in jail.

I agree. Alot of black people when they get money they move to the greener side of the pastures,

that is not a race issue....every race does this. If you're making 100k+, why would you live in the same place as people who make 10/hr? and i'm not even on some i'm better than you stuff either.

Thats true, and I wasnt saying it was the parents' duty to actually teach the kids the material

But just being on kids asses and getting to know their teachers, etc, goes a long way. And in any case, parents who haven't graduated high school are the exception, not the rule, even within the black community. So thats a situation that needs to be addressed but its nowhere near a normal one. Most parents know how school works and can read.

More realistic scenario are parents that haven't been to college. I know mine didn't go and when I went through my issues in school they couldn't help me.

The stats @Kenya Doll about the graduation rate among black tell part of that story. What are the real reasons two-thirds of us are not graduating after enrolling in college? It's not as simple as we're not just working hard enough.

Crack in the 80s messed us up and turned a lot of us into crabs. Before the 80s, black folk were all about empowerment, from music to everyday life. Crack game made savages out of us, but I see gradual improvements nowadays.

I got an argument for you. If I'm off base let me know.

Early in the 1900 black were not allowed to play proffessional sports. What did we do? We created our own leagues and eventually intergrated than took it over. They said we couldn't do it and we proved them wrong. Now my question is why can't we do the same in term of education. Why don't we use the same mentality we use to excel at sport to excel at education?

Cause education is considered "nerdy" and it doesn't get you bytches till you old, according to some nikkas:pacspit:

Breh even in college they got mentorship programs, there are special after school programs also for kids who have it hard in middle school and high school. I just refuse to believe we are not as bright. Besides there are other avenues besides college for a higher education. It is not that we can't cut it it is that we are not applying our brains toward learning bc we are being raised not to value it. A defensive back can read complex defense and schemes displaying in depth knowledge of football and you telling me if that nikka was to apply himself in the field of mathematics he couldln't do it?

Yes there are parents who tell their kids not to bother trying because the system is stacked up against them...that's why you see failures upon failures from generation to generation.

Most of our values comes from our parents.

:rudy:

i've been around some people that were the most fukked up & laziest parents one could imagine, but i've never heard any of'em say some dumb ass shyt like that..

some of ya'll nikkas on here just be imagining shyt about the hood cuz ya'll on the outside lookin in

:comeon:

I know I'm not the only one who wasn't trying to hear none of that shyt after freshman year. No mentor could answer why the curriculum was full of fluff and why they got those bs rules when it comes to trying to file for aid dolo but your parents are still claiming you on their taxes.

I know a lot about teaching how to read a defense. If you step onto a football field during practice, you'll see that the methods used to teach coverages are more modern and interactive than the way they are teaching math.

School doesn't do a good job of telling young black men why they are doing things, just how to do it. If I'm majoring in computer engineering, why am I paying for a chemistry class? If math hasn't changed for a thousand years, why am I paying for a new book every semester?

On the field, the cause and effects are spelled out. You react this way because of a,b,c. If you don't, x,y,z happens. That's more tangible than "IDK, that's just the way it is if you want that piece of paper".
