Common stayed around 87th and went to Luther south. You can come up on the south side of Chicago (in the hood), roll with the homies, see all the dirt and come out unscathed though. I did. Remember, Common had educated parents so he was taught well and knew of alternatives to the street life.

Lived in Philly most of my life too and, as I stated already, long as you stay in your lane you're good, regardless of whether or not you were thugging it or not.
But I figured it'd be different in a "gang city" and couldn't see how the hell a square like him made it out without repping anything.

Common's mom was a Doctor and his dad was Lonnie Lynn he played in the ABA, I don't know if they were rich, but it's safe to say he had a very solid support system around him.
