N!gga are you illiterate? You don't see, right here on the first page, where I've stated more than once why I asked?
Not to mention that dumbass analogy using ATCQ and De La Soul as examples, theyre from 90s NYC, not from some major gang city :what:
One more dumb ass reply and I'ma neg yo corny ass too :mjlol:

Yeah... New York never experienced a crack epidemic. In fact, NYC had a 29.2 murder rate in 1990 while chicago had a 28.3. I don't think Chicago ever experienced a broken window policy like NY did, that's why Chicago is still a murder capital while NY is Disneyfied. Which I think in part answers your question, Chicago wasn't as dangerous back then as it is now, in comparison to other US cities anyways.
And these statistics are from an article in the Chicago Tribune.

849 Homicides Place 1990 In A Sad Record Book

I gave you the Good Life analogy. Guys like Freestyle Fellowship, Volume 10, Abstract Rude came out of South Central LA in the late 80s and 90s, exactly where NWA was from.

I don't understand why you can't believe that a subset of music changed people like Common/Kanye's lives to the point where they didn't mess with gangs. Why do you think Kanye was at Phife's funeral? The music meant shyt to people.

If you listen to Resurrection though you'd think this n!gga common was out there in the thick of the sh!ts daily (on some parts of the album) :russ:
Commons a little older than me...
...but when I was in highschool people would say that he wasnt a scary ass dude.

If I remember right he was a Stone...
...he wasnt robbing & shooting people...but he would fight cats.
Someone told me would get beat up (but dude could have just been hating).

I went to highschool on the southside and didnt really get involved in any bullshyt.
Its possible.

back in those days. (the 90's)..if you had a few friends, and werent actively looking for trouble...you were straight.

Im a square...but used to party in a lot of hood spots.
Never had a problem.

South Shore is not a cac neighborhood. It was a middle class black neighborhood, but lately it's starting to get worse.

Common's mother currently a HS principal, but not sure what she did back when Common was coming up. His dad briefly played pro ball, but he also had a drug problem. It's possible common did bang. I heard he was a 4CH. I know dudes who came from two parent homes that banged, so anything is possible.

I wonder the same thing about Common, too. All he ever talked about on Resurrection(which was the last time I was really a Common fan) was "the Southside of Chicago". Dude grew up right in the thick of the sh!ts and clearly is not a banger. How the fukk?

I mean, growing up in various hoods I'm well aware that most of the thug sh!t usually gets passed around to other thugs who are into the thug sh!t and, if you're a known square and stayed in your lane, n!ggas generally will leave you be. But heavily populated gang areas are different.

How in the fukk did these two dudes make it? :dahell:

I read an interview that Common was actually and ran with the 4 Corner Hustler's but you know, sometimes people do make it out of those circumstances. Kanye on the other hand was raised in the suburbs I think. His mom was a professor at Clark Atlanta and president somewhere at a school on Chicago and his dad was the first black photo journalist for a paper in Atlanta. He had problems but it wasn't poor hood problems
