I can think if two opportunities I jumped on in high school.
A politician named Cynthia McKinney was tryna get Democratic votes and reached out to a few high schools to recruit teens who were willing to work on the campaign. I was a junior and thought it would be a good experience, so me and my classmates signed up. It turned out to be a lot of fun. Got to meet other kids from diff schools and McKinneys team were real nice and accommodating......they had political games, made us think of campaign ideas and offered us opportunities to get our feet wet in politics, and provided good lunches every visit. Campaigning with C.M is one of my favorite high school memories.
I jumped on another opportunity to work with a major company during the 1996 Olympics. Again, some reps went to local high schools looking for interested teens to work and earn summer money. Since I had never had a job I took advantage. The company offered us two options, work in a hotel where the competing athletes and major company execs would be staying or at their Atl based office assisting the marketing dept. It turned out a ton of my classmates signed up too and we all chose the hotel bc it was closer to our homes. Anyway, it was hella fun. Some of my classmates got hired as leads and supervisors, some as housekeeping and a few as bookkeepers. I started housekeeping and ended up in the office. We were paired with another high school, and aside from the fukk fest that came from this, we got paid very well for teens, and the back office work i did there helped me get similar work after i graduated.
