Fang and Sazh are great characters. This is the Matrix Revolutions phenomenon. The Matrix Reloaded was a good movie but because its sequel sucked people tether their negative feelings towards Revolutions to Reloaded as well.

Ulquiorra was a guy that was struggling to understand humans. In his own twisted way he bonded with Orihime and in the end he came close to understanding them better.

Mikasa is far from emo. She's just in love with Eren. She's what is called a kuudere (hard exterior but deep down a very caring person)

Itachi was just doing what he had to do for what he saw as the greater good. he's a kuudere like Mikasa

Levi, I don't know his deal cause I didn't make it far enough. Seemed like an a$$hole though and not the a$$hole with a heart of gold Roy Mustang type either.

Cloud was just an a$$hole. With a rather large group of people around him who cared about him and reached out to him he effectively shunned them and shut them out so he could sit around and sulk and brood over how wrong things went for him. He didn't really know how to bond with anyone and kept everyone at a distance. It frustrated the people around him especially Tifa. He doesn't really develop or become a better person either. at the end of Advent Children he's still the same.

Yea Mikasa is opening up but the rest are all the same to me. Not to mention the role they play factors in too...Itachi and Ulquiorra were bad guys. Mikasa, Levi, Cloud, Lightning are the good guys so they have more room to breathe as characters. I totally agree they just didn't develop Cloud enough but he still ended up being one of the most popular FF characters ever. They actually developed Lightning though and somewhat got her out of that robotic personality.

Fang was the best character to me in the FFXIII series. Props on that term "kuudere" I never heard of that before.

What's to like about either of them dudes? Squall was one of the worst main characters in any RPG ever. When I was a kid i thought his act was mildly entertaining but he's what happens when a spoil brat grows up and doesn't learn how to behave.

As for Cloud. He has no personality or character. He's like a cardboard box. He has even less personality that Lightning who at the start of her game is an a$$hole but at the end of it is a somewhat softer gentler a$$hole who can smile and make jokes. The best moments with Cloud are Aerith screwing around with him because he's such a stick in the mud. After her death and especially in Advent Children he becomes an even worse person.

Cloud and Squall are the type of people who never smile or laugh at anything really. miserable people with messed up developments who never get over themselves or how they grew up.

That's the only likable main protagonist of the PS generation Final Fantasies. He was a fun decent person with an actual personality that wasn't an emo or constantly brooding around who's development was seemingly stunted in childhood.

its been years since i've played FF8 so I dont know how it holds up, but I quite liked squalls internal dialogue. if squall said everything that he's thinking out loud then i'd agree with you, but he doesn't, so he's not obnoxious or intolerable to be around. the guy just keeps to himself, doesn't trust people, and is often deep in thought. the type of person who over analyzes everything. squall's just a guy who's bout his bidness and not tryna make friends out'chea

as for cloud, he was going through a legit existential crisis. how would you react if the better part of your life had been a complete lie? give the breh a break

to me, cloud & squall were very "90's" protagonists. the 90's had a thing about 'the beautiful loser' and cloud & squall both captured that persona perfectly. cloud being a guy that takes pride in his past, confident in his abilities as a "former member of SOLDIER" but in reality is just a bum who failed to make SOLDIER, and when learning of the truth he's crushed and sinks into depression. squall being a lonely misanthrope very distrustful of people, whose walls begin to come down throughout the course of the game as he grows as a person. at the time they were an alternative to the typical optimistic, cocksure JRPG protagonist

Nah, thats silly. Squall was actually on of the ONLY FF mains to develop and actually become a MAN during the course of the game. He went from a self-absorbed little pissant to a natural leader, loyal friend and ride or die for Rinoa. But only people actually played FF 8 and didn't just skim through it would know that.

Cloud though he was a different person through majority of the game and was fresh off seeing his only friend get noodled by Shinra. One thing I CAN'T defend Cloud on is having one of the baddest chicks in all of RPGs on his dikk and still being hung up on a church girl.

Tifa or Aerith??? That was a hard choice... cat was in love with her up until she was killed... Besides he's a brooding emo he aint got time to get laid...

No it wasn't Aerith was cool but Tifa was in a whole nother class and WAS EXTRA DOWN. Tifa was down for Cloud since they were kids. He was all on Aerith fo sure...but that nikka was following his heart and not his mind nikka...rookie mistake...

as a kid they were, everything in Nibelheim up until he gets stabbed was him (remember he stabbed Sephiroth then went to check on Tifa.) Only time he thought he was Zack was from the time Zack died...on.
