This phrase is thrown around frequently by people as an alternative/solution to the rat race that most people in society particpate in. What i rarely hear from the people who say this statement is what buisnesses they would start, what buisnesses they think are profitable start from scratch operations, a legitmatie plan they have for starting a buisness, how or why that buisness would be profitable for them, etc. All i hear/read is the key to success in this country is to "start your own buisness".

So, for those of you who feel that starting your own buisness is the way to go to obtain financial freedom..............what buisnesses do you all have in mind when saying this?

Once i have that, i plan on giving it to people in my immediate circle, friends and family first and letting it pop off by word of mouth..."

Daps you for your blatant honesty. :birdman:

I use to run a a DJ & Photography for international "themed" weddings (arabic, african songs, those musics are hard to come by) in college. It was actually going well til i graduated started my career and all these new CPU dj started undercutting prices. My partner (at that time( is doing pretty well alone with her photography business. I was in it for 3 years... I have something in mind right about another a package type of deal but still think the market is a little to saturated.

I own an IT consulting business. We work with small businesses to implement various technologies they need. Do everything from HIPAA audits, PCI compliance, technology strategy and implementation. Depending on the job we start at $100/hr and go up. Depending on the position I'll pay my employees $15-20/hr and sub contract them out. We also do web design and I'm thinking bout moving into web marketing as another business.

I also have another company I'm getting off the ground right now. Gonna use groupon to do my marketing for me. If things work out as I hope, should make me an additional 20-30k/mo in profit by this time next year. Most my time has been going into passing my last exam, so I really ain't been putting all my energy into it. End of the year though my businesses is gonna have 100% of my attention.

At the end of the day though, most y'all nikkas don't have the discipline, work ethic, or drive to be business owners. In the 90s I was hustling bootleg movies, software, and video games. When I was college I had a side business fixing computers.

Y'all say you want to work for yourself but you really don't, because if you did, you'd be out there doing it instead of talkin bout doing it :ld:

honestly if you had something in mind on makin a difference in the black community

thats what it gotta start wit first, you wanting to help people out regardless of money imo

but just starting a business wit dreams of makin money imo i think you gotta have money already, goals, and probably less emotions attached in order to succeed

i say emotions cuz its gonna be alot of people tryin to tear you down or tell you you gonna fail includin your family

imma personal message you my idea

Two ways to go about it.

1) Have a skill, base the business around your skill or team up with someone with a complimentary skill, and build something.

Example 1. I worked as a building engineer for a number of years after dropping out of college and I always worked manual labor jobs in the summers. So I knew some carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting. My friend had some money that he got from a deceased relative and wanted to invest it. He was a Econ major in college. We started a Property Management business. Started with buying a few multifamily houses/apartments. I did the manual labor, he was the money. It worked.

Example 2. As a side gig I started a painting company. At first I worked on references and just underbidding bigger companies. I didn't pay myself like a boss because I was technically the labor. As you get better at bidding jobs and understanding the business the easier it is. Takes time.

2) Have an interest or an idea and jump in blind

Example 1. My brother and his friend started a Sausage making company. My brother works for a hedgefund and his buddy is a Detective. Neither knew what the fukk they were doing going into it. All they knew was that they had a few great recipes at a high quality that local markets weren't providing. They started small and now, 2 years later, have a kitchen, office space, one full time employee, and are FDA approved. They both still have their main jobs but go to the kitchen before and after work so they can keep up with demand. ((Getting FDA approval is apparently a pain in the ass. As is keeping up with regulations and keeping their kitchen clean before and after production))

I think I'm out of advice and need to get back to my job before I get fired. Good Luck

There's some other things I wanna do down the line, but that's likely a few years from now.
