thats what was dope and under appreciated by Kobe
he always shot games into being close (most times)
and you knew he was going to gun and could potentially beat you
so you had to just throw double and triple teams at him
he wasnt padding he was going for the W

What about when he kept gunning when they were up 10 and should have been playing safe? Or when he was gunning with just a few seconds left and victory in hand? Or cases where Phil Jackson literally called him out for stat-padding?

kyrie I think was up 20 in that 60 point game last week, I may be wrong

They were up 34 with 9 minutes left when he scored his 60th point. He had scored 9 points in 2 minutes to get there, up 30+ pretty much the entire time.

But you're only talking about "stat-padding" in terms of the time they're in. What about the guys who purposely go for certain stats even when the game is close because they're trying to hit certain targets? Russ was the king of that, he'd have 8 or 9 assists and be passing like crazy, but if he had 10 assists he'd start shooting like crazy. MJ used to do it too during his triple-double streak, he was hunting triple-doubles long before the game was over.

Nah. If you're going to discuss numbers and statistics, make numerical and statistical benchmarks for what stat-padding is and isn't. This vague shyt won't cut it.

This isn't "clutch gene" or whatever ethereal, impossible to quantify hater narrative y'all glom onto where it's purely subjective.

Give facts :pachaha:
I’ll leave the busy work for you. Time is not free:yeshrug:

its all the same shyt stat padding is obvious

in both cases we stated it was obvious, thats why we can pinpoint exactly what was happening

i think the Russ shyt when the game is close is just stupidity and a coaching offense
in my opinion you are only really stat padding completely when you shouldnt be in the game
close game means gun for it

still stick to my guns even as a BK fan, its cool to get 60 while up 34 with 9 minutes
but you have to sit at that point, you've done enough and we need the bench to get more minutes and rhythm, take the night off.
nobody is gonna care or remember that you scored 60 if you lose in the playoffs

kobe gunning up 10 ... instead of playing it safe is more of him trying to shyt on his opponent, technically you are stat padding term wise. but once again thats a coaching offense, fukk what phil jackson had to say really... its his duty to pull him from the game
plus it makes it harder to argue against your workhorse when you're winning and if he loses because of playing reckless, what are you really gonna do? you need to play him next game anyway so who can you be mad at really
most stat padding comes from garbage time buckets when the game is already over for worse.

I think its funny when teams "stat pad" when they are winning... in Kyrie's case... im not saying I care, I would just rest him. Youd be foolish to let him play like game 7 of the finals in a meaningless game up 34 points. I'm not mad at the destruction or the stats

thats why I say its circumstantial

I wouldnt blame Beal or Lillard for gunning down 30 because they have no choice
and I wouldnt blame a player for burying a team at the end of a game up 10 just to prove a point ... you earned that
if you are down 15 and still doing garbage time layups that shyt is reckless :russ: russ looking for 1 more board and saying fukk the W is reckless.... a W means more than a triple double
thats why we look at Wilt funny in the light and Bill Russell dominated him, none of that shyt matters when you get sonned repeatedly, so much for 100 point games when you got more L's than cool J

The playoffs need to hurry up. The coliseum is terrible right now when it comes to talking about the NBA
It's cuz this board is getting older and older and registration is closed. Stale, increasingly out of touch conversation.

I think stat-padding usually applies more to passing and rebound than scoring. because when the team is down by 20, some player is supposed to score to cut the lead and when the team is up by 20 , (to a lesser extent though) somebody is supposed to hold the lead by scoring. either way, the opposing team will try to stop you from scoring until the last 2 minutes or so.

on the other hand, when it comes to rebound and passing the stat-padding is more obvious. when a player to steal a rebound from his teammates or even miss on purpose to grab offensive rebound especially if he close to reach 10 rebounds, that's stats-padding. when player try to pass even when he's open instead of taking a shot, that's stat-padding.

in general, stat-padding is any un-organic attempt to score, assist, rebound, steal, or block.

I don't know how you can say this if you've ever played ball breh, 99% of all stat-padding on every level is definitely scoring. :pachaha:

Yes, "someone is supposed to score", but when you insist on taking a bad shot when you know a teammate can get a better shot because you want to be the one with the big scoring total, you're stat-padding.

Which applies to every unnecessary bad shot.

No. That's not really stat padding. You killing your stats shooting bad shots unless you're Steph Curry. Stat padding is being down 45 and all game long you been driving and kicking, but suddenly when no one is playing any defense you want to finish at the rim even with your shooters wide open.

If you don't care about your FG% then you're not "killing your stats". There are 1000 comments in this forum where people say that FG% doesn't matter so clearly those people have bought into that narrative.

Might work in your favor in the short term but negatively affect you in the long term if you are perceived as a selfish player in a team sport.

This is like the 4th stat padding thread in 2 weeks.

The LeFans are butthurt :laff:

But the four threads focused on a bad game or Lakers loss can be upped every game right?
