Face guard Steph and he goes from a good not elite ISO player to a below average one unlike Harden, Kyrie or even Westbrook/Lebron.

Doesn't have incredible versatility outside of scoring and his off ball scoring is heavily reliant on screening and other playmakers.

Porous defender even when engaged.

Makes tons of careless passes despite the "creativity."

Comparing his gravity to Shaq is laughable when only one of them is a legit offensive anchor and has FMVPs.

You got box score nerds then you got people who actually understand and watch the game so they can contextualize stats.

Steph Curry is a front runner who pads stats after his teammates build leads during the later rounds of the playoffs.

Curry is a great rebounder for a guard, he's a great passer and playmaker (Better than Kobe), is a plus team defender, and freezes entire defenses by simply looking towards the basket.

Talking about face guarding Curry like he isn't the most active offensive star in the league and is constantly moving. Face-guarding Curry means you gonna eat screens all day, you gonna be in foul trouble, and you can't even try to help on defense which makes you weak as fukk on rotations.

Curry's presence alone is versatility and Curry is a legit offensive anchor. Put him next to Shaq and he's winning 6 rings. Put him and Gasol against those Celtics and Magic, he's cooking Ray Allen and Pierce while hiding on Rondo too.

I mean... I Understand why Bron stans are suddenly propping Curry up, it fits the narrative. :yeshrug:

Curry is not a better basketball player than Kobe or Wade tho.

If he keeps on whipping Lebrons ass in the finals then hey... fine by me.

Looks at Curry's numbers and minutes, looks at Kobe's :mjlol::mjlol::mjlol:

I wonder how many points Curry could score if he shot 27 times a game instead of taking 4th quarters off :mjlol:

Kobe's efficiency compared to Curry is like comparing MJ to Iverson despite Curry taking more difficult shots from further out :russ:

Nope, nope (he is really good but can get really reckless), hell no, and freezing the D is overrated when you go long stretches even multiple games doing a disappearing act in the later rounds of the playoffs.

Talking about face guarding Curry like he isn't the most active offensive star in the league and is constantly moving.

Which only works because he plays on a team that runs screen action well and has the playmakers to get him the ball....all team dependent stuff but this is about him as an individual.

This is a meaningless word salad

We saw an underdog Cavs team beat a Steph lead team....Shaq he is not nor would he win big on either of those squads without both teams retooling their systems/rosters heavily.

Stephen Curry had excellent defensive stats last year, he ranked higher than Kyrie Irving...

Here's an excellent write up

Why Steph Curry is Still Underrated (Defensively)

Curry ranks fifth amongst all point guards with a defensive real plus-minus (DRPM) of 1.29, ahead of renowned lockdown defenders Marcus Smart and Patrick Beverly. He leads all guards in defensive win shares (10th in the entire NBA). He also comes in at fifth in opponent field goal % difference (among guards who have played more than 70 games), meaning that opponents shoot 3.2 percentage points worse from the field when guarded by Curry. He leads the NBA in steals per game.

Thank you. I watch nba games very regularly (full live games, not just higlights) partly because im a huge fan and also because I work boring night shifts here in the UK and have the time and free wifi to stream live games and I swear to god,

I see curry regularly locking down his opponent and getting stops by staying in front of the player he's guarding with his quick feet and also getting strips, steals and rebounds while I see some other players who do not have the reputation as "terrible defenders" getting cooked.

This isnt fox news or the white house, if you are gonna make claims, you better back it up with facts

I wonder how many rings Kobe would have if he had the luxury to take 4th quarters off

 Wonder what stephs efficiency would be if had D Fish or Smush Parker in the backcourt with him

:mjgrin:You my number fan here. Stop quoting me hoe

I understand your argument and I agree up to a point.

Being an all around good player has significant value.

However, there are times (admittedly rare) where an athlete is so valuable on the offensive or defensive end that you overlook the other side of it.

In baseball terms, it’s why one dimensional guys like Ozzie Smith or Jim Thome or Manny Ramirez rate so highly.

Curry seems to have astronomical value offensively, and perhaps average value defensively. But in an effort to be fair, many star athletes have holes in their games. Some holes are bigger than others tho.

Curry isn't a bad defender at all. He's not even an average defender. He's a good defender overall and a GREAT team defender. He's just the weakest perimeter defender on a team full of great defenders.

He's great at reading and blocking passing lanes, has a strong base that has even stopped Westbrook from posting him up in the playoffs, he's pretty physical and constantly putting his shoulders into players, a little dirty, he's a pickpocket master, he's a great communicator, he's great funneling players into teammates for help , and he has a high motor even though his lateral quickness is lacking.

He's only average on an island, onntje perimetet, against top caliber point guards which are the Dames, Kyrie, Harden, etc...which is pretty much all the best guards in the league.

Dudes need to stop confusing offensive players making good shots with bad defense and running with dumb narratives. Anyone who has actually watched Golden State over a season can tell you that Curry is a high IQ and impactful defender the majority of the time.

:stopitslime: that's the same shyt they said about cacs like Nash who couldn't stay in front of anyone.

“Gravity” is the most overrated term in basketball right now. Let’s see how effective Curry’s “gravity” is on a sorry ass shooting team like the Lakers or Grizzlies where teams don’t give a fukk about leaving their man to double him because the open dude is a professional bricklayer. Easy to talk about gravity when you’re swinging it to Klay Thompson and Kevin fukking Durant.
