also curry didn't change the game with respect to 3 pt shooting

it was mike dantoni's rockets who convinced everybody that even average players could have success with the 3 or layup model

No. I'm not even Lebron biggest fan but he is player of the decade. You can give Curry most "influential" player of the decade but not overall best player. Lebron blows him out the water in stats, accomplishments, and accolades. Also Decade should mean what the superstar has been doing for all 10 years, not for 3-4 years.

Why do y'all Casuals put so much emphasis on a narrative-based accolade judged by only 11 media personnel? And he's always been the nucleus to his team's success.
Hard to argue v. Curry. He is greatest for his generation and the way the game is being played today. I watch my Hawks and if you don't have shooting in the modern NBA which we don' outside of Young, you can't win AT ALL. Steph is a big part of the reason for this shift. He changed the game

LeBron for me was the best ever but even if the topic is best for this gen. I think it's Steph. LeBron really didn't change the game like Steph did as influential impacts, everyone.

Bron is definitely the best player of this decade, but I ain't mad at Steph getting this type of recognition, considering a lot of folks still can't, and don't, wanna understand the impact he has on the game. The basketball public, in general, uses this scale where everything is judged upon what players do 1v1 with the ball, and they can't contextualize how Steph breaks the game with teams literally defending him with 2-3+ players everywhere he goes, with or without the ball. That type of impact is not only immeasurable in a historical context, but also figuratively as well.

It goes well beyond that too (his scoring efficiency v. volume v. shot difficulty), but folks who already know don't need to be told, and folks who don't know by now will never get it.

I would have picked LeBron if we are talking about the best player of the decade but I guess you can argue Curry’s influence

I ain’t mad at it :yeshrug: it’s a toss up between him and Lebron, with KD and Kawhi following up.

It’s a damn shame that 73 win Warriors didn’t win the title. If they did Steph would’ve been immortalised and his place as a top 10 player ever wouldn’t even be debatable.

Mike D’Antoni laid the blueprint with Phoenix. If you wanna go back even further you can say Don Nelson inspired Mike. Daryl Morey and his emphasis on analytics took it to the next level. Steve Kerr was a part of that Suns staff and took everything he learned from there to GSW. At no point during GSWs run, did they even lead the league in 3 point attempts. If Steph Curry never existed, the NBA would still be a 3 pt fest because of teams like Houston. Before Steph was a household name, the 3 point shot was already becoming heavily used due to the analytics movement. Him “changing the game” is a literal joke. :manny:

I think you’re forgetting just how much an emphasis on 3 ball was frowned upon until the Warriors won in 2015.

Even when they won 67 games in the regular season the narrative was they’d struggle in the playoffs as you couldn’t win a chip with a jump shooting team. Google articles regarding the Warriors and you’ll see A LOT of ‘experts’ saying that.

So yes, Steph Curry basically gave GM’s the greenlight to rely on 3 point shots.
