A lot of times people can't overcome their own biases. Haliburton wasn't a high draft pick, some people thought he had a lot of potential but not many people saw this coming.... and he's on the Pacers, not a big market team. It makes people insecure because he's making them look foolish every step of the way. He's never been anointed so dummies try to double down.

Define Superstar?

Vince Carter was a superstar, Grant Hill was a superstar, Penny Haradway was a superstar. So why can't Haliburton be a superstar?

vince is more of a star than anyone mentioned in this thread

and that's not me saying hes better than them either

the nba hasn't been able to push any of the new breed into pop culture status though... this an indictment on the league... side note: can he be a "superstar" in a context when the commentators are more famous than him? their (commentators) performances are the actual centerpiece of the dialog moreso than any player and what they are doing on the court

Sounds a lot like the forced Steph hate. :ohhh:

The top 10 most popular NBA players for the 2024-2025 season, based on views across NBA social and digital platforms, are:

  3. Luka Dončić (Los Angeles Lakers) - 1.82 billion views
  4. Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs) - 1.47 billion views

  8. Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns)

7 of the top 10 are younger, and Luka, Wemby, Ja, SGA, and Tatum are new breed :manny:

interesting data

but do views signify something materially meaningful ? internet sensations tend to be fleeting even with substantial views

ive been saying the nba is no longer pop culture ...think of entertainment pop culture of the 80s and 90s... tyson murphy mike Jackson and work on down.. nba stars were their peers

even with those massive numbers of "views" they aren't peers with today's pop stars... mr beast kai cenat... nor the offline versions

this may be permanent... thecoli's solution is a dominant player from boise idaho but i aint seeing that meaning all that much

Yeah, but I think a lot of that is due to today's ADHD generation. Everything is competing for your attention 24/7, even politics. It's gonna be hard for anyone to make a lasting impression and dominate the conversations consistently. Even hiphop can only focus on one star at a time.

It's the way the NBA has always been. There were always a chosen few who were annointed and pushed as stars from the moment they touch the court and then others that force their way in the convo by winning. Tyrese is the latter. This Finals run by the Pacers with Tyrese playing out of his mind should push him to superstar status, especially if they end up winning it all. Also helps he has that really unique looking shot and not afraid to talk his shyt.

TYRONE GA!
He isn't a score-first point guard in an era dominated by those types and admittedly does have games where he disappears.

Today's NBA talking heads seem to define superstar as someone who can go out and get you 40+ on any given night. That's not Haliburton's game.

But as @FAH1223 said... Indiana would be lost without him.
I prefer Traditional PG play. Rather that style than scoring 1s
